Hi,
I have a 1994 WRX, I would like to know the correct oil to be used in the gearbox.
I stripped 3rd gear and the 3rd gear syncro, which I think was a result of the incorrect gear oil. I used Esso 80w -90 in my gearbox which I think caused the problem.
Someone told me that I should use a thicker oil. Can you advise the advantages and disadvantages of the thick and thin oil.
Also, do you think i should mix two different oils?
I'm living in St. Vincent in the caribbean if you would like to know the weather condition.
I got a used gearbox that i'm about to install, but I would liketo know what sort of oil i should use.

LOL@Marlaka!
About to change my gearbox oil when the shop restocks..
Most people on here seem to use Castrol Syntrax 75W90.
Not sure what difference the heat there would make..
I believe the spec is 75W90...

You guys have this thing like a joke.
I seriously would like to know what type of oil to use.
I'm getting a used box this week, so I would really like your help on the oil.
Also, do you know what might have caused the problem with the 3rd gear stripping.
Can you guys please the read the topic and help me with the problem.

Obviously NOT the case
3rd gear a bit prone to stripping. I know mine did and that's what the dealer said. Oh, that was after he said... and I quote "I wouldn't bother with the extended warranty as these things are bombproof"
Hope this helps and if not then who cares as you sound a real grump
