now that the colder/wetter weather has arrived my car is not behaving itself starts first time, and will drive ok for a minute, then this is when it happens, the engine starts to misfire really badly, easing off the throttle doesn't help, nor does flooring it (shouldn't do this when it's cold i know, but frustration takes over ) now this will go on for anywhere between 5-10 attempts to accelerate, then it just goes any ideas?

Kev,
very small chance that you may have disconnected the temp sensor, therefore the engine won't know whether it's warm of not, I could be way off, and I don't even know what the thing looks like, just a thought!

Wate I would guess, although I think there might even be a sensor on the engine to stop it running if it gets tooooo hot, maybe that one does cold too.
Might just be worth checking under the bonnet for wires that aren't attached, near where you fitted the earth cables.

Only is a water temp sensor. No air. Unlikely you would have distrubed it, as it is bloody hard to get at even if you are trying. Usually if its gone, the car wont know its cold, and you will have no cold start, making it very difficult to start.

Cant think of much other than the ignition system that may cause your problem. Has it only done it since you added the earths??
I did mine, and didnt really notice any difference, good or bad.

have you tried fitting the little spark plug insulators which simply drop over the tops of the plugs.
pt No: 22489AA030.
have worked on a few mota's, worth a whirl anyway, not that expensive.

right, taken all the leads off the battery earth (except for OEM stuff) and it's starts the same as before, and apart from a bit lumpyness it seems to be ok now, no misfires at all, beats me

i'll try one more cold start as it is then start putting one wire at a time back on

Done the earthing mod due to persistent misfiring problem.

Block
Nearside strut tower earthing points
Manifold
ECU Chassis

Car runs so much better, cold, warm, hot, you name it - also it has really highlighted idle problem with the LINK chip I have - the second last version!

Also solved all misfire problems and fueling is much more stable - overall a good cheap mod - will do the alternator this weekend.

well, i had a go at putting all the earthing wires back on apart from the one that went to the alternator, took it for a spin and no misfire to speak of, it didn't run exceptionally well but nothing like it was the other week

just wondering if the wire i was running to the alternator wasn't upto the job (think it's 6 gauge i put on) i'll give it another go tomorrow at the meet to see if it wasn't a fluke today

scrap all of the above it's still there, went to the shops early this morning and was cutting the engine out coming to a stop now took all of the earth wires off, and will stay that way till i'm certain that they might be the problem, course it could be something else
