I've got a code 33 and a mouse in the wiring!

Legacy GT (EJ20) TT - 1994
I just had the engine check light come on so i ran a diagnostic...
I used the black plugs which gave me three historic codes and then ran the clearing sequence with greens and blacks connected to see if this was a current problem or an uncleared fault.....
The Check light then flashed a 33 only - Vehicle Speed Sensor i believe?
...the other codes have not been cleared in the memory though?!
The car is very unresponsive and tends to have a big lag....
Did also find a mouse has had some of the wiring down to copper-but cant find anymore damage after several hours looking!
Can anyone help?
