Long story here but my RB5 is back at subaru for the 3rd time in 3 weeks with engine problems. This time while engine is out and in pieces, i may get some engine mods made at the same time as any repairs (on the basis it can be repaired).

Im eventually expecting to take the car up to ~300 BHP.

This will consist of exhaust, induction, TEk2/3 ECU remap etc
Im also considering upgrading turbo and replacing internals.

I have got a quote from Graham Goode for Cosworth Forged Pistons and Oil pump.

So I need anything else ?
GG didnt recommend Conrods etc for up to 300 BHP

Do i need replacement injestors etc ?

Im aware i may need to get a FMIC, i'll wait and see

Also - ive already got an AP racing clutch and Samco hoses

cheers for any advise
Sean

my advice would be to speak to mark aigin.

nothing against ggr, but they are just expensive and in my opinion not as knowledgable.

dont bother uprating pistons alone, weakest link in engine is con rods.

rods and pistons could set you back £1500 max, but most of the money is in labour to fit them. If your engine is open anyway and you have the money and the car will be out of warranty soon, then it may be worth doing.

There are plenty cars with standard uk internals putting out much more than 350bhp, its up to you if you want to risk it.

ggr oil pump is a good idea. I bought mine from roger clarke motorsport, but I believe it to be a similar mod.

worth speaking to mark also about a fuel pump. RB5s are 99 spec cars so will have 440 injectors. with the fuel pump, that should see you to over 340bhp.

Would recommend replacing ecu with something like a 10 row link or a gems. Limiting factor will be standard turbo which wont be happy much over 300bhp. Get yourself a hybrid if you are going to buy a replacement anyway. recommend the md304.

To be honest, mark aigin@lateral performance should be able to cover all of your needs in a one stop shop. 020 8420 5444 (check that number I could be wrong)

Adam is right and Mark knows his stuff. But if you only want 300bhp, I think you could get that with a hyrbrid TD04L turbo (£500 exchange unit from Mark) Tek3 remap, ported headers, ITG panel filter. Car runs just like normal but after 3,000 rpm it just heads for the red Job done for £1,200 assuming the labour's already covered. This is basically what I've got.

It depends how far you want to go and certainly, if I was you with a nice car that I was going to keep for a few years yet, the temptation to do rods etc while it's in bits would be too much to resist.

Speak to Mark, and I bet you'll end up with a fire-breathing monster pushing 400 bhp-plus. It would be rude not to

Best regards,

Richard.

good point richard, forgot about applicability of tec3 in 99 spec ecu.

However, if doing rods and pistons, I would certainly want a more easily mappable ecu personally.
