someone with decat knowledge help before I part with £185

I asked the same question in halfords a while ago when I was looking at exhausts. The guy had to phone up magnex to find out if the centre pipe was included. It turned out that the £180 price only includes the downpipe. The centre section will set you back an additional £60 (if pipe only) or £110 (if resonated/boxed). Backbox will be extra again if you need one of these too.
By the way, I ended up just going for centre pipe without box and didn't bother with the downpipe after I heard about how big a job it was to fit. I have a prodrive backbox and when I fitted the centre pipe there wasn't much difference in the volume of the exhaust noise compared to standard centre section, just a wee bit more of a rumble. Did notice that the turbo seemed to spool up slightly quicker on take off

Scoobyjawa, I will have the same setup as you on a MY99 - does it make a big difference? Also, do you get flames out of the back (with a VTA dump valve)

I really want to decat and from all the searches I have come to the conclusion I should get the Magnex centre section and down pipe (price/quality/performance).
I went to halfords and they sell the Magnex 'Cat-by-pass system' for £185.
Q:
1. Is this what I need or is this some half-measure?
2. Is the price right? Seems too cheap
3. I guess I won't be getting a resonator - what difference will that make.
If I order this tomorrow and have it in next week
PS - I have a SS backbox on a UK MY99
Thanks in advance!!

Doesn't include fitting - will get my local garage to do that!
This is what it said:
'Front Cat Replacement pipe and down pipe arrangement from Turbo back'
Is this both the centre and downpipe?

£185 sounds like the downpipe only. The centre section pipe is about £60 I think, with no silencer, or about £100 with a silencer.
IMO Still about the best value around, and excellent quality.

Downpipe makes the biggest difference and having fitted one myself, I wouldn't say it's 'easy' but it's not that hard a job for your average grease monkey...

When my downpipe was fitted one of the studs was a bit awkward - I was glad that I opted not to do it my self and that Mr Croney was fitting it. It is also one of those jobs that really needs a proper lift to do easily.
The wide neck ones involve cutting away part of the heat shield too........

is the Magnex downpipe a wide neck one? i.e. will it require cutting the heatshield? I'm gonna get my local garage to do it!
And is a centre-pipe without a resonator annoying? I don't mind the noise as long as the car doesn't start vibrating!

All DP's require the heatsheild cutting AFAIK and not having the resonator will make hardly any difference, only a bit louder.
I have the Magnex DP, non res centre and SS BackBox
