LOL @ Chiark - it prolly won't do an IOTA fer ya Seriously though, hope it works well m8.
Good show Roy - we (I am from the B4 list) did not discover it (the REX boys over here seem to have started it), but can say that having done over 25 cars now (Rexes and Legacys) that it usually at LEAST makes the audio sound better
edit - Sperring again

I put the earth mod onto my MY97WRX at the weekend as well, I had been getting some variable readings on my AFR gauge at WOT with a feeling of its quick but lacking something, this mod has made such a big difference, the gauge now nearly goes off the top of the scale and the car is pulling really strongly. I used the 4 point setup, but will probably groung the ECU case as well.
Editted to add I got the cable and connectors from Maplin 8 gauge cable £2.27/meter with M10 ring terminal connectors 2 for 99p.

shocked !!!!!!!!!!
thats all i can say i am,shocked!!!!!!!!!
whilst browsin the net the other day i came across a site about legacy b4 rsk cars,on this it had a section on modifing.
i noticed a earthing mod for the car that the owner of the site had bought and fitted and said made a difference in the cars general running and performance.
now,as i am a maintainence electrician i invesigated into this.armed with a roll of 6mm single black heat resistant cable and a few lugs(terminals),i attacked the job, last night at 2 in the morning(as i was on nights!),,10 min later it was done,,,an earth to the left hand side and to the right hand side of the engine,,,and a earth to the drivers side shocker.
now, normally when my car starts up in the morning its a little sluggish till it warms up a bit,,but not nowwhat a difference its made,,
1,not sluggish in the morning
2,feels smoother to drive
3,feels smother changing gear
4,doesnt have anymore flat spots or hesitation whilst though the revs right up to the red line.
i dread to think how much the kit from japan is(i think hks do one)but to it would only cost a few pound to do this modification and in my eyes its well, well worth 10 minutes and the cost of less than £5.
obviously the more earths the better, the kit that you can buy can be a 5 point or 7 point earth,,i only used 3 points but plan to do a few more at a later date.
i can provide pics if anyone is interested ,but will have to be e-mailed to you as i cant get them on here.
happy earthing,,,,roy

right then,,
the theory is the engine uses the earth to run properly,in basic terms,
its fine sending power to the spark plugs and various sensors on the engine and to the ecu,but if the earth(neutral) is not very good then the current in the cable has to find the its own best route back to the battery.
hence,if you can help the current in its journey back to the battery things run better.
the engine has very few earthing points on it,and after researching about this, subaru imprezza,s and legacys suffer from bad earths though the fact there are not enough of them on the engine and bodywork, the ones that are there ,over time ,get corroded and resistance becomes quite high making it harder for current to pass though the terminal and work its way back to the battery.
it may sound a tad complicated to a few none electrical minded, but if you can emagine a hose pipe with water gushing out the end into a bucket,,if you squash the hosepipe it takes longer to fill the bucket, this is like electricity,it needs the best route to travel but if you make resistance on its path,it struggles and looks for other possible routes to travel.
hence this earthing modification helps electricity travel back to the battery better, and quicker.
i wiil post the pics out to those that have requested,if anybody can post them on here i would be very greatfull.
by the way, this earthing job i did on my car was done at 2 am this morning just to see if it worked,in torchlight,i need to tidy the wiring a little, but i hope it helps

yup,it defiately makes a difference on my car,i just drove it to the shops,
its much better now,i was thinking of selling it but i may just keep it now ,its made that much diference!!a pleasure to drive.
if anybody does do this mod i would love to hear if it has worked on your car,i have gotta rate it 10/10, probably one of the best mods i have ever done to a car to notice a difference in literaly 10 minuits and cost next to nothing to do,without damaging the engine putting it under any more stress.
i just hope it benifits some of you out there.
it has go to be worth a try.

I did this on mine a while back, it did make a difference, not that huge though, but then my car was onlt a year old at the time, maybe it makes a bigger difference on cars that are a tad older!
Ron.
glad I did it though!

Makes much more of a difference on the older cars. I did a 3 point earth (more still to do when it stops raining!) on my car about two months ago. The engine is much smoother on idle now, plus a few more benefits.

I'll have to try and get some pics up of the earthing on the C rev JDM (MY03 in UK-speak). To say the have, er, "upgraded" it is a bit weak - it now looks suspiciously like a what we are talking about, just in black so it is not as obvious!!
Now where is Chiark?
Cheers.
