Having a Magnex BB and Magnex Centre Section on my MY98 UK Impreza I'm now gonna take the plunge and fit a downpipe. I'm confused as to which is best as there seems to be different designs (i.e. open neck, twin dump etc. etc.)

Can anyone explain the main differenes in designs and what advantages/disadvantages there are?

Going back to the original question for the MY98 - I had a Hayward & Scott DP fitted by Subaru4You (Len Carlyon) recently.

It sounds fantastic (once you get a taste for the whistling noise). Job done in 2 hrs, OEM heatshield modified and re-fitted.

All for £310 - plus he seems like a bloody nice chap.... : ))))

No contest go for the TSL one, by far the best I have seen

And we had the delight of the very excelent service that TSL gave when they fitted the downpipe.

A twin dump downpipe is designed to keep the main exhaust gas and wastegate gas separate for as long as possible. If it is designed correctly it will out perform an open neck, end of story. Unfortunatly some/most of the twin dumps I have seen have been flawed (some mindnumbingly so!).

Sorry to hijack this thread slightly but can anyone advise on a quiet downpipe for a MY02 ?
Searching through scoobynet it seems that the BPM are the quietest version but I believe that they are all twin dump versions. Any ideas or suggestions, was planning on exhaust wrap before fitting !

Is the Hayward & Scott D/P the one that is currently being sold by Scoobyworld and that used to be sold by Scoobysport?

Not the cheapest solution, but I now have an APS system on my MY02, complete with sports cat and a centre resonator. It's 3" right through except for the backbox that fits to the standard flanges. I ran it for a few days with just the backbox. Changing the whole system after that made very little difference to the noise at cruise or gentle throttle, although you can hear it more now on WOT (a good thing IMHO). All the exhaust noise comes from the backbox, no noise at all up front.

The APS backbox is quieter from inside than most, but all straight through designs will be MUCH louder than standard. I'd guess (although I haven't tried) that the APS system with the OEM backbox would be barely audible.
