What does knock sound like?

Sounds like dropping a handful of pins into a tin can.It happens all thru rev range and then the revs cut at 4500rpm when on full throttle. Is this the knock sensor telling the ECU to cut the revs?

I run an Sti 6 Type r which is meant to be prone to detonation. The cure so far has been a bottle of NF octane boost with every tank of Optimax. I hooked the Deltadash diagnostic programme to test the combination and found 0 knock correction throughout the rev range no matter how hard i pushed the car. NF must be doing the trick.

I thought all imports had to be run on octane booster whatever...
Jap fuel is 100RON; surely anything less than that (i.e UK fuel) is recipe for knackering your engine.....

you need to check the resistance on the coil packs scott, sounds like another one is dry. the car always ran really rich.
the car suffered from a misfire due to a (sometimes, under load) faulty coil pack- found which one and replaced it and it ran like a dream again. they dry out over time.
maybe also worth checking the lambda sensor; your mpg should be a reasonable indicator as to whether there is a problem with this.

My wrx is just run on super/optimax.... the ecu has a certain amout of tolerance, and can back off the timing.... i have a lambda link and its never run lean since i have had it fitted.... Its probably best to run the STI's with octane booster...

One thing to remember is that knock correction is always after the event...the ecu cannot anticipate det.
My STI5 with induction/decat detted everytime I floored the throttle in 4th/5th @ between 4-4500rpm. This was with Optimax and booster. We used det cans and a knock link - which was very accurate btw, as it was very difficult to hear it in the car.
If you own a STI/import then fitting one i think is essential.
