Got a problem with my engine, been told it would be cheaper to buy a new one. Been told by the AA that the head gaskets gone and needs replacing - when the engine is trying to start water comes out of the water tank. Is it true that it would be cheaper to get a new engine or can i have this fixed?

I would get it looked at by a specialist..... you will not need a new engine.... and it will not work out cheaper after you have bought a new engine and had the old one removed and the new one refitted.... the head gasket(s) is a big ish job but a competent mechanic could do it.... have you got any other symptoms.... water and oil mixture...??? although this does not always happen on the scoob...

It could be that the gasket has gone and is pressuring the water system....

You will have to get the right gaskets because alot of the early wrx's have closed deck blocks and are less likly to blow...
