Unhappy

Here is a challenge for you.

94 wrx wagon 70000 miles, run on optimax.

Problem, once a month (or there abouts) for last 3 years, car will lose varying amounts of boost. Sometimes it will recover gradually, other times it will reapear all at once while driving. Don't have a boost gauge so I cannot quote figures, but the Subaru dignostic says its at normal levels when running fine. No fault codes detected, but on one occasion when it was almost undriveable due to hesitation, the wastegate reading was 100% (should be 20-90%) and no air was coming from the turbo pipe. Then all on its own it started blowing again!?
Turbo was inspected and found to be running freely.
While it has never been that bad since, it still varies from one week to a next. It is usually set off by a long period of steady driving (in trafic of course!), and a good thrash can sometimes clear it.
I am not getting a missfire so what the **** is up with my car!
Please help.

Oh dear, if you lot can't come up with any ideas then I will just have to live with it. My local garage gave up on it long ago and there are no specialists for miles (Grimsby).
Guess it serves me right for buying an import as the main dealers won't touch it.
