Hi there people!

After some rather...."spirited" driving on Friday on std UL (I know, bad girl) I seem to have limited my boost to only 0.5 bar (by my Apexi gauge). I've re-filled with optimax since, and tried to do an ECU reset (about 60 seconds with +ve terminal off battery - is this long enough?) But I'm still maxing out at 0.5 bar.

Is there anything else I can do to get my 1 bar back that doesn't include a trip to Subaru? I rang there service department but he said give it time and it'll come back - but how am I meant to beat up the local Honduh squad with half a bar?

Any help greatly appreciated. ooh - it's a GC8 '99 WRX import if that helps.

ta.

I think you need to disconnect the battery for longer than that do do an ECU reset... More like a couple of hours i think

Boost cut to 0.5 bar sound like the ecu responding to detting and thus cutting boost back to save the engine.

assuming there are no recurring problems it should reset itself, it should occur when you hit the same point (i.e. revs in gear) 3 times in succession.

Search the board for ECU reset threads, there are 2 connectors under the dash that will reset it, car will then drive badly for a few miles until it "relearns", alternatively you have to disconnect the battery for 13 hours or so.

However If i was u I would want to find out what has caused the boost cut, cause if the car is detting and its ignored then .................................................. ....................................

Rich

edited to say "my car has been doing it occaisionally, but its normally gone within half an hour. you may want to get it checked out on a rr or with a select monitor it it dont come back soon"

cheers fellas.

It's only done it once, as I red lined in third whilst overtaking.

As I said, it was cats wee standard unleaded which I put in out of necessity, just forgot about it that's all. I'm usually an Optimax girl with some octane boost every now and then.

Cool

I'm a bit concerned about your car for you.
A lovely lady shouldn't have problems with her motor because the insurance company's say they are steddier drivers.
Are you an exception?

Yes optimax girl all the way well as often as I can - when I'm down south I don't tend to get it as much.

Not at all a steady driver - as my poor WRX will attest to! I haven't been able to go out and play with ECU yet as it's too dark when I get home from work.

I'll try the battery of for 15 minutes first tho as thats loads easier than fishing around under the column

Shona i think you asked for that one lol!
Optimax is available in most places now, the best thing to do is look on the shell site if your going away from the area you know and work out where the garages are, that way you shouldnt have this problem again

DOH! Dirty sods!

Yeah I only had a quick trip down to Southampton to see the olds. Crappy weather meant I was only going to bother going as far as the supermarket to get the go-go juice.

I had the same problem in an early WRX and had to replace the ECU to sort it out.

The link below will tell you how to reset the ecu:
