Good evening all.

I'm having the Dastek Unichip and water injection installed on Tuesday. Was wondering if anyone has it installed on their motor, if so what was the difference when it was installed...? Also does water injection give you more bhp...?

Regards

Kev..

Sorry Kev, please don't take offence but why are you getting WI installed if you don't understand what it is going to do for you??

To be honest, I'd cancel the booking and think about getting a Link/Tek/Gems full ECU instead of a piggyback.

Do some searching on the BBS this topic has been covered aq great deal over the last couple of years. I'd urge anyone thinking of this route to fully investigate every option before commiting to something like this.

Mo.

The reason for having WI is to keep the intake temps down, but does it increase bhp (thats all I'm asking)..

Regards

It does increase power if the fuel and ignition are mapped to suit it, but is there a reliable failsafe in case the water stops? What boost control is being used? What model year is it? Any other upgrades? Water injection is best aimed at controlling detonation in the cylinders rather than lowering intake temperatures, but it is a cheaper way of doing the latter than an uprated intercooler. Might be worth stepping back as suggested and researching what you are trying to achieve in some more detail. There is usually a better alternative to a Unichip in the form of reprogramming the original ECU on most Imprezas now, and there are some very capable aftermarket standalone ECUs available with other facilities too.

Kev,

We still talking about the GT4 ? If so, from what you have said about your aims, the Unichip should work fine and the WI is a *real* help with keeping you power consistant.

Yes, it could be setup so that you get to the point where you can run a little more power than you could without it, but in 9 out of 10 cases, people fitting it will do so for safety reasons, i.e. keeping charge temps down in what is known as probably one of the hottest engine bays known to man

Cheers

Kev,

The Unichip is probably your best option at the moment then.

If you do decide to go a lot further with the mods that you have previously said, you will then need to look at a full ECU such as the MoTeC (or equiv.).

I ran a Unichip/WI/Hybrid turbo on my GT4 for a couple of years without problems. Best thing I ever did to that car, well, except selling it

Cheers

I have a Unichip and Dual Pump WI kit progammed into it on my Type R.

Itis their in order to prevent det primarily and manage temps etc however good mapping can/could provide more power by pushing your thresholds a little further.

If doing WI I would go for a system which disconnects the wastegate solenoid if the water flow is too low. ERL DDS 2 has a variant on this but the output does not swing the correct way at the correct time. Might look into it at some point.

Deep

What if, what if, what if...............

I think we all understand the potential issues with all the mods we carry out.
We take the measures we are comfortable with and accept the risks accordingly.

What if my cambelt snaps?
What if an injector fails?
What if I hit a wall?

Understand your point but hey we run risks when modding all the time
