Has anyone used one of these on a MY93 WRX. Am I right in reading that this is a kind of performance chip? If anyone has used them, which map did you use and is it any good?

I'm definately getting this so I can re-map my future car. It should be compatible as its a pre-97 thing.

Katana, have I read it right that they sell "off the shelf" maps? Or is the Guinness getting to me?

Hehe yup you read it right. I'm confused myself. I'm going to do the mapping myself though as its more fun and challenging. It seems to be a bargain for 50 quid wouldn't you say?

Thanks for pointing them in the right direction Mark.

Yep you can map it yourself, but you will need access to an EPROM programmer (start at about £45) and be able to convert the map into ODD/EVEN bytes to program the 2 devices.

Most of this can be done using MsExcel once you are familiar with how to program the devices.

Alternatively maps are available 'Off-Shelf' at various settings upto the current maximum of 16.5psi. If you want to go higher than this then it's DIY.

Thanks Scott. I don't want to map it myself, electronics aren't my thing. Give me a tub of grease, a hammer and spanner any day!
Would this cure the problem with early WRX's not wanting to boost above 0.7 bar? Or will I have to get a new ecu first.

Um you can boost over 0.7 bar by removing the fuel cut via a fuel cut defender (100 quid) and a Dawes boost controler (forgot how much but less than a 100).

Are they any good?

Myself, Pavlo, and Scott have been involved in these (see diy ecu remap thread...)

I run one and my car has just run 345bhp with no boost controllers, fuel controllers, map clamps, or bleed valves...

What the Dawes? Hell yeah. As for remapping my car, its a bit difficult to do currently as I've just sold mine in order to get a newer one.

Dave,

How did you get around the 2 BAR Map sensor limitation. Have you twiddles the map for a 3 BAR or do you not have an active fuel-cut.

Mark,

Yes it will allow you to go above 0.7BAR. The 'Off-Shelf' Stage 2 Variant is approx 1.1BAR.
