I have a question for all the Ecutek gurus, basically I had a Tek 2 ECU fitted on the rollers at PE about 6 months ago and at the same time they fitted an HKS Induction kit. Now after some months the noise is really bugging me so I removed the HKS Induction kit and refitted the OE airbox with an ITG filter but do I need a remap?? or can the Tek 2 map handle both the OE airbox and an Induction kit?? the car definately feels slower now and judders at low revs when apply light throttle. Should I refit the HKS filter until I get a remap???

The Tek2 is fine with the standard airbox - you're just back to turbulence around the MAF causing juddering! Probably... (still undecided, this one - one of the 'they all do that, sir' ensemble ). But an air kit of some sort usually goes towards getting rid of it.

Is the juddering a MAF fault? Caused by induction kit vibration/poisoning?

The MAF isnt showing any signs of failure its just the low speed judder, Is it really caused by air around the MAF sensor? if so then I am switching back to the induction kit as it makes the car a much better drive.

That does seem to be it. It's what Subaru have always said - which usually isn't a good start - but where it happens in the rpm range is about right for there to be a bit of an iffy airflow in the inlet leading to the turbo. Pressures fluctuating around, not too sure if it's coming or going sort of thing - just the job to muddle the MAF!

mervin was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to (even let me sit in the car while he mapped it) those figures were in summer when it was 26 degrees on the rolling road.
Winter now... so the cold air will make a difference to your figures.

We are carrying out a lot of mapping now on the MT01 WRX, please look at the "Developments" section of the web site.

We are launching the software to tuners in November. The reason for the delay is that we wanted to use it extensively in house to ensure that all functioned perfectly.

The Tek2 gave me 281BHP & 265FT LB Torque!!!! from an MY00 UK that is pretty good and yes I am well pleased!!!

Only made 257BHP and 254FT LB torque recently at PE with only a full Scoobysport system after having the TEK2 fitted.

They are very good figures Jake, so will be getting a induction kit next to try improve mine and get closer to yours.

Does anyone know if the swapping from a replacement Ecutek ECU back to the original MY99 ECU without running the car will show up on any system/select monitor etc?

Ie, if my engine goes bang for any reason, can I swap the ECU back around before the car goes back to Subaru ?

A friend of mine allegedly had a Tek2 car that went bang and the dealer did the repair without question, as I believe that the ECU box a) looks identical and b) is identical to the select monitor unless someone starts looking at boost level values etc (unlikely)

Tricky thing is that it was my local main Subaru dealer that did the Tek2..so if it goes bang then they will definately know.

If the dealer fitted it, why don't you just in a round about kind of way ask them ' what if' when its it in for the next service?

OR
If the car is under warranty (or extended warranty), what is to stop you having it towed (using the breakdown service)to another dealer if it goes kaput ?

My friend's cost £2500 under warranty to fix but is running well - I believe the initial failure was under extreme (track) conditions...

OR
Give up on the Tek2, spend £1600 on PPP and forget about it ?

Thanks for the replies, but does anyone actually know if data is captured and stored anywhere whilst the engine is running. Ie, is there a trace of sensor readings going back x number of seconds, which, if the ECU is swapped after the engine goes bang (before car taken to dealer) and the engine is not run, will be noticeable on a select monitor or other ???

Nothing was said when my friend's car went kaputski and the dealer had serviced it the previous week.

If you swap ECUs, the car has no record that this has happened, unless you have an OEM immobiliser like the Forrester or 01/02 car, in which case you must get the immobiliser synched with the ECU, using a Select Monitor, before the car will start.

Having said that, if you make a warranty claim, you are obliged to inform the dealer of all mods you have made to the car - that includes bleed valves, exhausts, ECUs, piggy backs etc. If you don't it is fraud on your part. I don't think the cars are covered if they've been on a track either, though I could be wrong there.

If you have just had your car serviced and it goes pop shortly afterwards, check the oil level - that's always a favourite and I have that it has happened to many people.

However, I have a (S Plate) MY99 and have recently had my key fob loose its communications with the ecu, thus stopping it from re-mobilising the factory standard imobiliser.

A select monitor was used to re-program the ECU or Key fob(s).

I also had to get the key fob re-programmed when the faulty ecu was replaced. Does this mean that an ECU swap will not work on a UK MY99 or above as well as the 01/02 cars.

(The imobiliser is completely standard and I believe they were introduced from Dec 98).

99/00MY UK Turbo and EU Model does not have an immobiliser built into the ECU. When the cars entered the country, they were fitted with an alarm/immobiliser. Since the immobiliser system is independant of the ECU, you can interchange these ECUs at will.

Also, if your immobiliser key lost comms with the alarm, then it wouldn't be the ECU at fault.

The dealer definitely had to use a select monitor and choose
some kind of code from a book to re-program my key...! I stood over them and watched.

Do Subaru use a select monitor to sync the code on the
key with the code on the alarm then (and not the ecu) ??

I gather the Select Monitor does not just interrogate the main ECU, but can also work with the ABS, immobiliser etc?

There's a separate Select Monitor card for immobiliser re-programming. This card has no ecu functions on it.
