I spent the whole of yesterday fitting a Magnex twin-dump downpipe, losing all the skin off my knuckles in the process. After tightening all the bolts I noticed the pipe on the wastegate side was only about 2mm away from the steering column. Anyway after I finished fitting it I took the car for a run only to find the pipe rubs on the steering column when I go round a left hand bend, giving a horible noise and vibration in the steering. Surely Magnex should have given it more clearance? I'm not sure how I'm going to overcome this. To add insult to injury it is also leaking from the join to the centre section. I have a Magnex centre section on order so hopefully when I fit that it will stop leaking.

Performance wise it's made a huge difference, but due to the steering rack issue it looks like I'm going to have to take it off.

I'm not happy.

Drex,

Did you fit the bracket that holds it to the gearbox. Mine has about an inch clearence.

Magnex are usually a very good fitment.

Cheers

Bloody hell Drexel that doesn't sound good.

I know that a Scooby Sport downpipe seems to make loads of difference to a MY 97,98, and 99. Hope the other bits turn up soon.

Is it new or 2nd hand? The very first ones were a bitch to fit IIRC

I have one of the early ones which required modifying a gearbox bracket to fit - I think, pretty sure Magnex cured that, but mine seems to be fine now - no problems like that at all.

Mine came from the very first batch, fitted fine. Very happy with it in both quality and performance.

It's brand new from JW racing. The gear box bracket is adjustable (left to right, not up and down) via an elongated hole, I had to have it right at the end of the adjustment to line the hole up with the gearbox mount. I'm going to make a shorter bracket up in work, hopefully when I put the shorter bracket on and tighten it up it will pull the downpipe away from the column.

Like I said the performance is awesome, even though the rest of the exhaust is standard (until the centre section and Firestorm turn up) it's made a huge difference.

To be honest it only rubs when going around a left hand bend at speed. In normal driving it's fine. Hopefully the bracket I'm making will sort it.

Hi DreXel

Please email me or call me and I will see what Magnex have to say on the matter.

I sell Magnex day in day out and have never encountered a problem either, but that doesn't mean to say I wont try to help you out.

Let me know mate.

Jamie

just remembered what i was told, it was that the wastegate pipe was too close to the steering rack and was drying the join out, can't vouch for this 'cause i've not got one one though

he (whoever he was )said they were going to alter the design to make it an open neck type and avoid the wastegate pipe running parallel to downpipe

It's an MY 97. The center has turned up today so whilst I fit that I'll have another go at repositioning the DP with the bracket I've made.

TSL have told me the Firestorm should arrive today aswell. Can't wait for that bad-boy
