How to clean inside of exhaust to make it louder?
#1
My Blitz Nur Spec R has got a lot quieter since I bought it new a couple of months ago. I reckon this is because of the black soot (carbon desposits?) that has lined the inside of it. It used to be almost headache-inducingly loud but now I can hardly hear it!
As it's currently off the car (center and back box), does anyone have any ideas how I can remove this soot and make it louder ? Any other suggestions to make it louder gratefully received too!

Usually the deposits make it louder - they clog up the 'pores' to the sound-deadening so it doesn't, um, deaden sound as well any more.
Are you sure there isn't a squirrel hibernating up there?

Thanks for the constructive replies
I sprayed some water down it using a hose pipe but it hardly did anything so I didn't bother trying too hard. It's back on the car now and it does seem loud (especially after an hour-long cross country run) so I think it's just that I've got used to it (and probably been partly deafened by it )
Still well pleased with it though - loads of people commented that it sounds good, but usually followed that by saying they couldn't live with it!
WRXKM - I tried starting the car with just the downpipe connected and it was only just louder than with the Blitz center and BB on!

I'm sure there are products on the market specifically for de-coking exhausts. Stick a can up your exhaust and spray!
Try leafing through a Max Power type mag. These things usually boast a performance gain of about 10-20bhp

Ripmaze the volume will depend on what sort of driving you do.
If you do lots of short journeys, the box will get full of moisture from the water in the exhaust gas and this will saturate the packing in the box. Because wet packing is more dense, the sound will be quiet.
If you do long journeys, the box will get hot enough for this moisture to evaporate off and it will be louder.

Pete, you beat me to it.
If you want to dry the exhaust out, do a good hard track day - worked for me, the SS system on my old MY00 was much louder after
