Poll - Does removing the downpipe cat in a MY01 make the car run cr@p?
#2
Steve do you mean cutting it out or replacing it with a new downpipe. If its the latter it makes it run great all the way to the red line, i dont know if it possible to just remove the existing cat in the OEM downpipe, Probably not and the dust created by removing the cat is toxic.

Yes, i found it to make a big difference.
on the rollers i was at 230bhp and that was only with a Prodrive WR B/Box & Scooby Sport down pipe.

Just go for it,
I changed the exhaust a while ago with a decatted SS d/p and u/p matched to an HKS Hiper mid and back box.
The difference in performance, and noise, was really noticeable.
The flat spot previously existed at 4k simply dissapeared and the car was measured at 249Bhp on the rollers.
I think the d/p and b/b makes the big difference.

Up-Pipe, down-pipe and fully system on my MY01- no problems other than an uncontrollable grin. The idle can be a bit lumpy but it was never a V12 to start with

Some people have found that a decat creates a great flat spot before the turbo spins up - the powers higher up but much better.
One well known motorsport dealer doesnt like the de-cat because of this flat spot.. but the people he sells them to love it!!

Running a Prodrive backbox and centre decat, scoobysport de-silencer pipe and Magnex downpipe and turbo downpipe.
Car now runs as good as it sounds (roars and pops), and decatting the two downpipes shaved almost a second off my 1/4mile times
Just need to get the OBDII now to put out the CEL.

I had one of Mr Croney's finest exhaust systems (DP, centres and back box) on my MY01 for nearly a year now - no problems what so ever. Pulls throughout the rev range and makes a lovely noise. No dodgy tickover / idle - do it you know you want to

Mine pops in the midsection declutching on a gear downchange. Bangs in the backbox are more random on a spirited drive (never when you want them e.g. passing old ladies at the busstop)
