Define "best". I find that there's no difference in terms of performance between an induction kit and a panel filter. For the safest I guess its got to be anything K&N as it filters best. Blitz and HKS on the other hand are still debatable.

Thumbs up

I've fitted the Pipercross induction kit to my car. It is a foam filter not cotton. The filter comes dry so no problem with oil contamination. Plenty of noise from the dump valve now too.

Well Blitz does not need any oil on it as its just fine metal mesh filter but still can play havoc with your MAF.

MAF sensors shouldn't be a problem on early cars. I've run the HKS mushroom for well over 2yrs and 35k miles with no problems.

If you are running a dry pipercross filter then effectively you are not using a filter, they normally come with a small can of tack additive or adhesive spray which without, the filter simply doesnt work. If there is no can in the box then the additive has already been applied.

The instructions say to only use the spray under very dusty conditions. If I remember correctly it is not required for normal use.

Blitz SUS is good on an early car.

Very high flow rate, more than standard air box. Simple inspection will tell you that, otherwise there'd be no point to induction kits really. Where the standard box is better is at low speeds on warm days etc. where the induction kit will be dragging in warmer air than the airbox would.

MAFs shouldn't be a problem on models before 99, and even then I know people happily running SUSs on 00 models with no problems at all.

Personal preference at the end of the day, but I reckon with Blitz and HKS you can't go wrong.

P.S. I'm at 331bhp and rising on a 96uk turbo with Blitz SUS. That was before the FMIC, bigger injectors and Link I'm fitting.

Cheers Rich

I'm not convinced about the Blitz. If it causes any problems with the MAF on the 99+, seeming there's no goo, it's probably because it's letting crud through. And compressor blades don't like crud very much. They stop being blades and start being paddles

Had Blitz sus system on my99 now for over 6months now and no probs(touch wood)was told that vibration to the maf and not being secured properly would help cause maf probs. Also took the mesh filter off last week and hardley anything to be found at all.The odd bit of dust here and there, had a uprated panel filter b4 the blitz and when swopped to SUS found crap and loads of filter oil on its way into the afm.
