STi7 + Motec 800...

Hi guys
Technical question please.
I have an STi7 MY02, and have got a Motec 800(has the 1mb logger + Variable Timing upgrade) on the way (sits in the standard ECU harness, set up for the STi7)
The car is stock except for the following:
TSL centre section
GroupN rear box
ITG filter
A rough guestimate I have been told is its pumping out about 285BHP, and 395NM at about 4K.(this is really a rough guess, no r/r)
What I'm wondering is what can I expect realistically from this set up with the Motec.
I want the following:
1. Reliability
2. Torque low-down
3. Power increase but bearing in mind driveability and point 1.
Any help greatly appreciated form the Technical minded, and any feedback from those who have done this before, especially those with STi7's.

the motec is not going to give yuo many more advantages than any other programmable ecu.
It is more accurate timing wise, but the limit of that is determined by the timing wheel which you are not changing.
The ecu will only be as good as the mapper, so inshort make sure he is good, and tell him what you want.
Drivability can be improved by bringing the turbo in slightly quicker by playign with the fuelling at that point.
Same advantages as any other ecu.

Prodrive produce a remapped ECU for the STi7 and lets say it produces 300BHP,300lbs.
Motec remapped and works alongside the OEM unit, its mapped for 300BHP,300lbs.
But I get the option of remapping the more mods that go on.
But if prodrive isn't going to replace the wheel also, I miss the point.
Will the Motec deliver as in my first question

The Motec M800 is more than capable of doing what you want. I'm just confused to whether you're getting the generic, or cheaper plug in version.
You talk about it being used along side the stock ECU, when the M800 is capable of running the car on it's own.
I hope your tuner knows what he's doing, because that's really what's going to determine what you end up with.

Motec will deliver if your engine mapper is able
I think that the number of engine mappers that truly understand how to get the best out of all the features in a M800 is limited - to one in England, possibly two, I would be delighted to get to learn of others

I was thinking of TSL, and Graham. He has a Motec on his own WRX and its quite awesome. I also hear that Bob Rawle is good at it or I believe Branco at BRD.
If you can shed anymore light on this then please let me know.

tslmay have fittwed one to an old shape wrx, but I dont believe its a phase 2 or 2.5 (version 7) engine.
I would be inclined to leave it in the hands of bob rawle who fitted one to his phase 2 car and so knows how to do it plus get the best out of it.
The m800 is a generic unit, usually supplied with a loom adapter. It will replace the standard ecu, and idle speed control on the phase 2 engine is a difficuly thing to set up so you will need someone with the experience to do it.
In this respect, only person I would consider is Bob.

The main problem you're going to have at the moment, is that I doubt any of the tuners have any, or much experience with mapping the STi7, because few of the "cheaper" ECU's are able to control the variable cam timing, and not many people are prepared to pay £2000~2500 for an ECU.
I would speak to TSL, and Bob Rawle, and get an idea of what to expect in terms of being a "guiney pig".
The only company that I know has specifically done any work on the STi7, is Gems. I have a friend who's STi7 is being used as a test bed for their new STi7 compatible ECU.
It would also be worth talking to Steve Simpson.

M800 for the new My01+ is a replacement ecu, no adaptor loom needed it plugs into ecu housing.
Big news now has stepper motor idle control so no a/c wirries as i have with my M48.
Software much more analytical and great boost controlling at last. Full plug n play but mapper must be up to it especiallu with the variable cams. Great ecu (maybe a bit on the xpensive side) can work with or without maf, good choice amigo!
