Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had the GEMS ECU fitted to their scooby? I know of several people that have the Motec fitted and they all seem very happy with the result.
Just kinda wondering if the GEMS is any good, or should i just stick with going with the Motec as the prefered option?

Ta!

Hi Paul,

cheers for the reply.
I'd be interested in a comparison between a GEMS and Motec install, but on the whole most people either choose the link on a tight budget or Motec if moneys not a problem or such like...

Well if running in GPA cars then it's gotta be good. I know of several competing guys in Evo's and they all have GEMs... will have to do some more enquiring.

As I am going down this route it comes down to a point that I want the best, after all if your gonna spend circa 1200 - 1500 quid then the extra 500-1000 for the best doesn't seem that far ahead... just some more long hours to work! ehe

Yup, the ecu change is for my STi5.
The last sidc meet I was at was in Jan, blasting along the quiet roads of wales.
Were you not able to get to that one?

Take it easy

Graeme,
long time no see,

speak to Peter Conolly at C&K (0161 224 1431)- he knows a chap who maps the gems - he had a go in an RA with gems in the other day and said it was a monster...

iirc it was £1200 fitted and mapped - so broadly comparable with a powerstation motec installation.

it does look to be more configurable than other ecus and has a connector for hooking to a laptop and full pc software/data logger - so less diy than a link.

very widespread use in gp a cars I believe so it can't be bad.

are you considering it for the sti?

Paul W

ps - when are we going to see you back at some sidc meets?

Graeme:
I have mapped both MoTeC and Gems on Imprezas. The MoTeC (IMHO) is a long way better than the gems system. The gems system I did in an Impreza took three days to map (this map is used by a number of gems tuners now as a start up map)the average time to map a MoTeC system on an Impreza is one day. The gems system dosent have anywhere near the flexibility or capacity of the MoTeC ECU and is generally inferior in every department(data logging, processor speed etc.)

Give me a phone for more details.

Rich
