As most of you know I had a few mods - APS induction kit, Blitz boost controller, FCD, 5 Zigen exhaust with stock AE782 ECU and stock turbo. Recently I fitted a VF23 turbo and an uprated fuel pump from Mark. Obviously I needed a map. Very high temperatures in Greece and getting the most out of the new mods was required. It was also pretty lean with the APS induction kit as others have also found.
John Banks came out to Greece for a holiday and I took advantage of the situation and decided to get a Tek 3 map from him.
What can I say? It is outstanding. The first thing is that I could remove the dreaded fuel cut defender, and secondly I can probably sell my Blitz DSBC because John made the ECU control boost better.
Improvements: car is not lean so I could keep my APS kit, power is much smoother, much improved throttle response, and quite a bit more torque because of the extra fuel. Top end power is at least as good because of better boost control even though it is now richer. The fuelling now comes in smoothly from low revs and smoothly increases up to high revs with no flat spots like before.
Would recommend it to anyone, I am ecstatic.
Cheers

Ooops! My first reply. Another ECUTEK satisfied customer!!!
WREXY.I've also got my Forester ECU a nice "treatment" from Ecutek guys and it now flies! So far, i'm getting 237 BHP and 32Kgm @3200 @ 10.5PSI but the new "precription" calls for about 245-250 BHP. I should be able to post dyno results by next week once i get the ECU back.
Too bad that i missed Dr. Banks visit. (i'm sure i would have found ways to extend his vacation also).

Great news WREXY,
I couldn't join you this week, I am very busy at the moment.
I made the big step and I ordered the VF29 as you suggested me, problem is I can't wait till November when it will be delivered to me!
I'll send you an e-mail, I am looking forward to see how your car goes with the VF23+TEC3 combination.
Cheers

Hi Forester_GP,
John Banks is still here mate. He will be leaving on Saturday, so if you want anything checked, you still have some time. E mail me if you want anything.
Hi Kostas,
John has done a great job of mapping the car. You can't tell there is much lag. It feels quite nice even below 3100rpm, however at around 3800 rpm all hell breaks loose. In 5th, I hit 1.0bar boost at 3100rpm. Drives nice and smooth and potters around town quite happilly in higher gears than it did before.
Before the remap, my O2 sensor readings were 0.86/0.87 volts which was on the lean side due to the APS induction kit, however now with the MAF calibration that John has worked out for the APS induction kit, my O2 sensor readings are around 0.895 volts which is nice for performance and safe too. Power delivery and driveability with the APS kit is now as smooth as.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

I Wrexy Remember me??
Great News :-)
I would like to know just one thing. You tell to me that VF24/28/29 are the same. So my question is: Your car make how much boost??
You think that the VF24 fit better in your mods??
You only have full power at 3800rpm???
And day to day drive??
The top end your car pull hard? You can have the same boost at 3500rpm - 6500rpm whitout tail off??
Regards

Another John's TEK3 map satisfied customer here!
John is first of all very helpfull and friendly which is also important.
As I am going to make some more modifications to my car that curently is almost identical to George's, I'll post the final results later here.
Scobywhite go for the VF29 which best suits your needs IMVHO.
I use this for my car but don't expect big differences between VF29-VF23.

I'd second and third everyone's opinion of the remap and of John himself.
Not only does the Tek3 considerably make the car and spool up much smoother, John also is very helpful and friendly when it comes to general advice. He's a mine of useful information and any mods on his car have been done so that he can advise how far to push a UK car together with the Tek maps.
Although, I have to say, he's a lucky so-and-so having a "working" holiday in Greece !

To Jim Theo.
But I do not understand??
The VF29 is not the same has VF24.
Your are telling me that the VF29 are betten VF24 and VF23.
What is the time of spool up of a VF29, max boost, at what rpm -/+ it have full boost, etc
Explain me please.
Thanks

I say that VF29/28/24 is almost the same turbo. VF23 is also little bit different but don't expect too much differences.
About the spool up it depends from other modifications you have in your car but generally at 2900-3000rpm you have 1bar boost.
As already mentioned from John don't expect the same low down torque from a VF series turbo as with your original TD04, is a compromise, but you gain huge amounts of power after 3500rpm to the limit!
Of course this is my opinion I am not an expert.

Ha ,
at last some competition! :P
VF29 rules for lagless GT s . I had it for a week with GGR exh+MoTeC+Ramiair+HKS manif and it was frantic from downbelow!
Changed to VF22 and car became v linear, so much so I met a m8 with a stock RS4 and told him to boot it to see the distance that he would be ahead. Well he was only a cars' lentgth ... behind till 3rd then the road ended!
When i get the dineros ill put a hybrid!
I think ave Judd from dieseldist. owes me a bundle in commissons...

Hi Scoobywhite,
My target boost is 17psi and it holds it all the way from 3700 to 6400 and then above this, John has tailed it off to around 16.5psi till 6800rpm which is as high as I rev it. Under 3700 I stil have plenty of boost. The car is not dead under these revs. There is boost even below 3000 rpm. As I said at 3100 in 5th I already have 1 bar boost.
If you get a VF 24/28/29 you will have 1 bar at around 2800rpm.
For my style of driving, I love the VF23 and would stick with it. I like the top end the VF23 provides. The VF29 will tail off earlier than the VF23 up top.
If you add a manifold such as the PE one, to a VF24/28/29, the VF24/28/29 performs like a VF23 does on a car without an aftermarket manifold. So keep this in mind.
I'd go for a VF23 without manifold, but if I had a manifold then I would go for a VF29. This offcourse is for what I'm after.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Scoobywhite you have email - suggest any of VF24/28/29 for what you want. Should give 1 bar before 3000 RPM and hold flat to the top at 1.1-1.2 bar as you want.

Blachie,
No dyno graphs. There are no RRs in Nafplion. But when the weather cools down I'll take it to a RR in Athens.
By manifold, I mean exhaust manifold. The up pipe and down pipe are different.
George,
I should be arriving with John at the airport at 1500.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Blachie,
I'm going to do some testing with the boost controller first for comparison and after that I'll let you know if I will be selling it.
Although boost has been mapped in beautifully by John Banks, I want to see if there is any difference with the electronic boost controller in different weather situations and if it is similar to the stock setup when it comes to the amount of boost held in low and high gears.
Cheers,
Wrexy.
