Drop in oil pressure across oil cooler
#1
Couple of thoughts:
1. Does installing an oil cooler actually cause a significant oil pressure drop to the engine?
2. What is the actual flow rate of oil (in litres per minute) that would pass thru the oil cooler at a cruise rpm (say 3000rpm). If the oil flow rate is low, then the oil cooler should not cause a drop in pressure. However, if it is high, then it is likely that some pressure drop will occur.
3. I have noticed that the Low Oil Pressue warning light on the dash only comes on with the Defi oil press gauge reads almost zero. Does anyone know where in the oil system this OEM gauge picks up the oil pressure from? (The Defi sensor reads it off the sensor in the sandwich above the oil filter.)
Cheers!

Yes tks. Thats the physical location of the OEM oil press switch. But in terms of in the oil system, where is it? ie downstream of the camshaft tap off, upstream of the main bearings supply? ... etc.
cheers.
cheers.
