Judder on lift off - is this a dump valve porb?
#1
When cruising down the motorway if I put my foot down a little then let off the car judders a little a couple of times. It only seems to be when I lift off sharply, could this be the standard DV not doing it job?

Don't think this is a plugs problem. The car has only done 23K miles and has had uprated plugs put in sometime in its life.
What do I need to check/look for if they are dodgy? Don't really want to take them out they look quite hard to get at.

Nezz I have exactly the same problem, apparently it's quite common but that doesnt mean to say it's right or can't be fixed as its not a nice characteristic!

I don't know if uprating the DV to a forge or otherwise may sort the problem or it may be becuse it is a re-circ job that it is doing it. Don't see why it makes it judder though.

The dumpvalve is the standard one and I just thought that it wasn't liking the extra boost i run with the link. It has always done this since I bought the car so cannot tell if it was due to incease boost or not.
How do i know if the coils are dodgy? Also what are the coils and where are they?

It's (probably) the Link. Same thing happens on my MY99. When I first had the Link fitted, it was quite pronounced. The excellent Mr Rawle confirmed it wasn't a problem/risk to the engine, but I still took it out - and the problem disappeared.
I subsequently has it re-installed by Bob, together with an upgrade and although it still does it occasionally, it's nowhere near as bad when it does happen ("bad" being subjective - disconcerting is probably more accurate).
Email Bob and seek his views.

(even with the bit of judder and indifferent early morning/cold starting, I wouldn't be without the Link. Mated to a Scoobysport downpipe and backbox it gives humongous mid-range imrovements over the standard set up)

Yep! It's the Link. My 99my does it very noticably on occasions. Contacted Bob Rawle and he confirmed it to be a Link "thing" noticable on some cars more than others. Can be reduced but not always eliminated. It can be a bit embarrasing sometimes when you have a passenger who comments on it!

PS Agree with David Blows re- occasional cold start probs. My car went through a "phase" of poor cold starting (even with the latest chip)but is (touch wood)behaving itself at the moment. There is also a start-up procedure to be followed.

I have had a similar problem with 'lift off judder' at the time I had just fitted fmic and was running higher boost
It turned out to be the standard dv, it couldnt handle the boost
After changing to another dv (atmos) it was much better, cured even
