Which backbox is best(least restrictive), I have a budget of £150 so looking at a used one before you mention others like the Blitz and Firestorm.
Dont care about noise, but do you get ECU errors with either of these?
Cheers
Daz.

WR box is a retail part, the PPP box is only available with the PPP itself, unless 2nd hand.
The PPP box imo is the better of the two, power difference is neglegible, but looks much better.
I have a 2nd hand PPP box if you want for £150 (new shape).

You mean the oval-pipe WRS Prodrive back-box? Defo less restrictive than PPP box at top end and a bit louder. I've used both. So has Floyd - I'm sure he'll post something soon.
Cheers,
Richard.

Yeah Daz, thats easy m8, when you about ? I'm free sat/sun.
History of my PPP box is that it came off my old WRX PPP, then replaced it with a ScoobySport, then p/xed the car for new STi7 and the dealer had sold my old car before I had a chance to swap it back, so its been gathering dust for the last 3 months.
Mail me on swells@nildram.co.uk, I have switched my mobile off for the weekend now, so no chance of getting me on that
Doh! it was new in Dec last year, and has covered about 15,000 miles, polishes up like new tho.

power difference is neglegible
The WRSport and PPP silencers are almost identical internally, the tailpipe being the only real difference.

I don't quite understand why Mike says that they are almost identical? The sound TOTALLY different - one has a nice burble and is quite a bit louder the other is really quiet and has an odd wooshing noise at full chat. The PPP one can sound like a jet fighter and I believe that is down to being more restrictive.
I can't see how the tail pipe can make so much difference.
Mike Wood, what does he know
Get the WR BB, you won't regret it.
F
Just read this on another post
"The silencer fitted to pre 01MY PPP is different internally to both the WRSport and P1 silencers, predominantly to keep noise levels reasonable.
The silencers for 01MY are different again, hence opinions based on earlier cars are not necessarily valid for later cars. The WRSport and PPP silencers are almost identical internally, the tailpipe being the only real difference."
So this verifies what I said anyway and proves that the pre '01 PPP box is more restrictive than the WR one. Also that the post '01's may be better still - so lucky Hoppy

And we were talking about 01/02 PPP boxes from the start as its an 01 car.
The sound of a backbox has no relation to how restrictive it is either.
To get the most out of the PPP box (soundwise) its best to change the center section too.

The WR and PPP backboxes are designed for different things. I've had both on my car at different times (obviously not at the same time..er... ).
The WR is meant to slapped on an otherwise standard car. i.e. a catted centre pipe. It has therefore been made less restrictive as the system as a whole still has two cats in. The PPP on the other hand has a catless centre pipe so has been slightly more restrictive to compensate.
With a catless system I found the WR bb was getting a bit too noisy for my liking. I changed to the PPP box - much better.
Just my 2p's

Cheers for all the input but its too late now, I've brought it from Goon and its already fitted, sounds nice enough to me.
I didnt realy like the look of the WR BB anyway just wanted to know if there would be any noticeable difference between the two.
Thanks again.
PS, Goon your car not only looks great but sounds it too!!
(I soooooo wanna STI)
Daz.

Get your center section sorted, then yours will sound much better, only a 10 min job to fit if you have access to a ramp/pit or Kwak-Fit will do it for a tenner.
Removing the small 2nd cat will give no real warranty issues, in worst situation you can get it put back on again.
Thats all my car has had done, the nasty downpipe cat is still in place, but the 2nd is gone plus a straight-thru center, hence the roar
2nd cat isn't monitored by the ecu either, so no cel problems to worry about.
Do it !!!

These two pipes replace the second cat and third resonator section to give a noticeable increase in torque, BHP and the perfect soundtrack for your journey!
