Sorry for posting this I know it's been done to death, but anyway...
I've got a UK MY98, with the following mods, currently pushing 270bhp:
Full Decat exhaust system
Blitz filter
PE remapped PPP ECU
I'm just about to fit a FMIC, and want advice on which turbo I should go for , I'm thinking a VF28 and what other mods you guys would advise, eg, fuel pump? larger injectors? etc. please advise.
Cheers
Pete

For picking a turbo & the things to support it, first of all work out what sort of power you are looking for, then work back from that.
Bear in mind the compromises - eg a lot power is probably at the expense of drivability (loads of lag); less power (smaller turbo so less lag) could suit your needs/driving style more.
Once you've worked out the power you are after, you can then find the required flow rate and then match this to a turbo with the closest response to what you want. The injector size is dependant on the power, and uprate the fuel pump whatever
Whatever, you're best bet once you've worked out exactly what you are after is talk to someone who really knows what they are talking about (Mark Aigin the most likely here, although there are others about) to decide. Frequently a hybrid may be better suited than an off-the-shelf, but at this stage you also want to work out how much you want to spend BTW - hybrids aren't necessarily more expensive than off-the-shelfs.
Hope that helps a little

Cheers nom,
I'm looking for that magic 300bhp+, in an ideal world as little lag as possible, plenty of midrange, I'm not into flat out tops speeds, I don't do may miles a year so fuel consumption isn't really an issue.
Dos this help anyone?

I second that.
Have a word with mark aigin @ lateral performance (banner ad on the way I believe!). I think its mark@lateralperformance.co.uk
He is definitely the only man I would trust on such issues, and have done many times.
Especially since you mention hybrid turbos, injector sizing and fuel pumps etc, his speciality.
Tim W ran his uk car at 346 bhp on a mark aigin hybrid. That was at 1.25 bar, and certainly did not feel laggy. Am certain there are less laggy options which will give you awesome drivability and easily enable you to smash 300bhp.
one things for sure though, do the fuel pump first.

I'm due to fit a VF28 turbo on mine soonish.
Similar mods to your own and have been told I'll hit about the 300+ mark.
Turbo should come on about 500revs above what the standard does already and hold the peak boost for longer.
I'll let you know when it all comes together.

dalloyd,
308bhp may well be ok on your car, but that would depend on what it is. 308bhp out of a pre '99 UK car, is something else.
Mark.

Pete,
Nothing at all, but pre'99 UK cars have 380cc injectors. '99> changed to 440cc injectors.
This makes a big difference when it comes to tuning, and what can be safely achieved, before larger injectors are needed.

Depends on how violent you are
350 (with the typical torque you get around that value) is a good guide if you play nicely. But only a guide! And the clutch goes around there anyway

Pete,
You can use the 380cc injectors (with uprated fuel pump) until 290 - 300 BHP if you taper the boost after 6.000 RPM. (about 14 PSI at 7.000 RPM is possible with VF23 and proper mixture)
If you want to go further: rising the fuel pressure with an adjustable regulator can be a cheaper solution as fitting bigger injectors.
The std. MY99 injectors won“t fit your car.
