I basically want to know whether it's worth buying one to replace my STD twin pipe. Obviously will improve looks but what about the noise, I want more burbble.

Anyone

less than WRX PPP BB Definitely not

PPP less restrictive , but not as good as Scooby sport . Seen as you thinking along these lines , I found an Sti 6 back box less restrictive than the 7 box . But sooner or later you gonna junk the whole pipe and go 3" with down pipe , no cats and wonder what took you so long to do it . Performance diff is at least 1 car length difference per gear with straight through system , well worth the investment . Match that to a flat panel K&N airfilter and see your boost level come in a further 500rpm lower .

Be a warrior go the whole hog . It aint gonna kill the car . You will wonder why they never left the factory like this its so worth while .

You didnt want a balanced approach did you ....

The STi7 backbox pipe is sleeved down just inside the centre pipe mount end to about 38mm ID from approx 50mm exiting the centre pipe, and is seemingly identical to the WRX one (I have both in my garage).

IMHO it is a waste of time/money fitting it.

Boultsy,

If it's burble you're after, I would definitely recommend replacing the back box with either a TSL or ScoobySport one. We've got a ScoobySport one on our UK98 car, if you fancy listening to the difference. We've also got a decat centre with resonator, but you can only really hear the difference with that when it's warm. Next stop decat downpipe...

Wink

Bloutsy,
Yes even inside the B/Box is restrictive. I cut mine open and operated on it. While awaitng PPP I bought a Magnex 6"x4"
They are cheaper(B/Box£200 or B/Box+Decat £300 ish) I was surprized how much louder it was on my STi7 compared to the old one fitted to my MY99
