Rex,
I did this on my motor (MY 94WRX) and put on STiV heads. Had to make adapter plates for the old inlet manifold to fit (and cut the inlet manifold and widen it by 18mm), though I could of (and probably should have) swapped to the later manifold. Hard to say about performance gains, I did it to raise the rev limit, which I've taken out to a first stage soft cut at 7400, and then second stage at 7500. This enables 0-60 times in 2nd gear. Had so much other work done at the same time that I can't quantify the gains, but doing this combined with FMIC, bigger injectors and an ECU remap took the car from 290 bhp to 330 bhp, with absolutely no knock, in fact it runs so rich now it could do with leaning out to get a few more bhp and some better fuel economy.
