Bad hesitation on acceleration
#1
Hi Guys,
The car drove perfectly on my way to work this morning. But, after heavy rain today, on the way home the car wouldn't accelerate without severe hesitation, very jerky. It's as if it only happened with boost. I could drive it perfectly smoothly if I was very gentle with it. Everything looks OK from a brief look under the bonnet with connectors dry... Bit of water on the MAF but only at the filter end (K&N)
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Rich

Mines was doing exactly the same in 5th gear only on the way home in the same (terrible) weather conditions! Strange! I started a thread in general technical on it. Might be an idea to keep an eye on each others threads.

SB, not saying it is...but it could be 'overboost' due to the water spray, mine makes higher boost in denser air (as they all do).
Also the first thing people shout when a power/boost related problem occurs...MAF
Start with the simple things (and less expensive) and work up 'till you solve it
Good luck boys

Mine did exactly the same today. No go upto about 2500rpm then it seemed to clear, after about 10min.
Ijust put it down to the way it was parked in the street and so damp had got into the plug tops.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, if it isn't OK after a good drying out in the garage tonight, I'll chlean out the MAF and check the plug leads...
Can't help thinking it must be water somewhere after the rain.

Well, it seems a good drying out overnight has cured my problem...
Was it probably water in the plug leads then? Is there anything I can do to stop this happening again? I'm going to improve the MAF shield in case it was that anyway.

When you say youre going to improve the MAF shield, is that because you have opened the bonnet vent above the filter. If so, mine did this everytime it had been stood in rain for a while. Replace the blank for the vent and it stopped doing it.

Err, the engine isn't in an Impreza but in the back of my Porsche 356 speedster replica, with the engine in the back! The filter sticks out into the rear wheel arch area, most of the MAF is protected inside the engine bay but it is slightly exposed so I'll improve this area.
