Effects of too much engine oil?
#1
I've just had my car serviced and have noticed that the oil level is way over the Full line. What sort of effects may this have? What ill effects might I expect in terms of damage to any other parts of the engine, senosors etc? What would you expect the garage to say?

too much oil is bad, not terribly so.
will come out the breather and be burnt by the engine, leaves oil deposits in intercooler and inlet piping, can cause power loss (oh no!) and possibly a little cat damage.
Best get it to the right level, remember to check on a flat surface and all that. "Max" on the dipstick is for hot engine, small hole on dipstick is for stone cold engine.

Thanks.
Pavlo. I asume you are refering to the holes and not the notch on the dipstick, right?
Anyone know how much oil volume between Min and Max marks on dipstick?
Julian.

Yes, there should be a min and max notches, and a hole about 2mm about the max notch. Hole refers to max level when stone cold, because much of the oil in the engine will have drained into the sump.
