Cool

From the Cobb website -

APS-COBB SR30
This is the fastest spooling of them all. Similar spool up to the smallest IHI VF series, but with the power potential of some of the largest IHI VF series turbochargers. Perfect for street cars that want an enjoyable level of power but do not want to sacrifice low and mid-range turbo response. This is the turbo we use with the RT Spec systems.

SR30 TURBOCHARGER
Fits: 2002+ WRX (all)
Skill Required: Enthusiast+
Installation Time: 6hr
Price: $1500

APS-COBB SR40
A great turbo for those that always want just a little more than the next guy. Ideal for street/strip applications, these turbos offer the power potential of the popular PE 1820 but with 20-30% faster spool up. Strong power from 4000 - 8000 RPM, but don’t expect much below 4000 RPM. Perfect for those that don’t mind sacrificing some low-end turbo response in trade for high HP potential.

Fits: 2002+ WRX (all)
Skill Required: Enthusiast+
Installation Time: 6hr
Price: $1650

APS-COBB SR50
This is the biggest, baddest turbo of them all – not for the faint hearted. Ideal for 2.5L applications though can be used on very heavily modified 2.0L and 2.2L engines. The most powerful turbocharger made available as a bolt-on for the WRX. The question will not be if this turbo can handle it, but if you can!

Skill Required: Enthusiast+
Installation Time: 6hr
Price: $1800

The ultimate drop-in turbochargers for the WRX are here. No longer does one need to worry about matching up flanges or fabricating water lines in their quest for the ultimate turbo. With the capability to flow more air and support more power than any other bolt-on turbocharger in the market, these are a must have for any WRX power junkie. Carefully engineered for maximum reliability, the painstaking care that goes into each component selection results in the most effective whiplash your neck has ever experienced in a WRX. In fact, our engineers are such perfectionist that even the stock turbo heat shield is retained for an OEM-like fit.

As one would expect when considering a custom-tailored, hand-built turbocharger, the rewards of patience are worth an agony of anticipation. Delivery time is an estimated 2 - 12 weeks from date of order, depending on production runs.

Engineered To Perform – Superior Technology Equals Superior Performance

To build the best turbocharger available for the WRX one must first start with the best technology available. To this end, the APS-COBB SR-series is based on the revolutionary new Garrett GT turbochargers. Featuring a true dual ball-bearing design, these turbochargers take advantage of the latest in aerodynamic design with their compressor and turbine wheels. The result is a 30-40% improvement in turbo response over older, more traditional designs. Improved aerodynamics also result in a more efficient turbo, meaning these turbochargers can produce a denser, more potent air charge compared to other turbochargers at the same boost levels.

With all this technology on-board, it would seem silly not to simply run down to your local “Turbos ’R Us” to buy an off-the-shelf Garrett GT turbocharger for your own WRX. Not so easy I’m afraid. Simply put, they do not fit in the stock location. Different flanges, different oil and water connections, housing interferences. the list goes on.

To overcome these challenges, completely new compressor and exhaust housings were designed specifically for the WRX. These features, along with carefully designed connections for the stock water and oil fittings, allow for a simple bolt-in design. The end result is the highest specification turbocharger available on the market for the WRX. We challenge you to find a better.

Power versus Response – Picking the Right Turbo for You

While most of us want as much power as possible, we must practice some level of self-control when choosing the right turbocharger for our needs. Simply bolting on a 500HP capable SR-50 turbocharger to a mildly modified WRX will not immediately result in a 500HP fire-breathing monster. Everything must work together as a package, and therefore you need to decide what works best for your overall setup and goals.

The trade-off between ultimate power levels is turbo response. When considering the right SR turbo for you, keep in mind that the higher the HP potential, the slower the turbo response (more lag). It is highly recommended to maintain a careful balance of these two factors when building your ultimate WRX.

At COBB Tuning, we test each system thoroughly before making them available to you, so you can trust that the solution you choose will work as advertised.

I think there are a few people using this kit in the uk, to very good effect.

Actually not too bad by all acounts pricewise, but depends how far you take it! You saw the head work on the website and so on? You could come out of cobbs shop a poor man!

The APS turbos seem pretty good, a guy got 355hp on one quite readily (440cc injectors though!) on the SR40 with the smaller exhaust housing (425hp limit). Spool up wasn't bad after all, plenty of torque at 3500rpm (remember the discussions after Jamie W made a claim about spooling up like standard, but standard what blah blah blah).

I think though Andy, you would need the SR30, put a bit of scaffold pipe in the front and run it with some 200cc/min injectors to get 400hp

Paul
