Hey to those on the other side of the pond... There seems to be a lack of information, stateside, regarding Stroked 2.2L's and turbo 2.2L engines. I'm currently working on a project car that is looking like it will be a stroked STi motor and I'd like to see a few things in the dyno plots... if you guys could help that would be greatly appreciated, thanks

If you use the dyno.scoobynet link at the top of these pages, and check out the 22b's, that will give you an idea of a 2.2, although I think they will be running about 1.1bar.

I also know of one tuned 22b that made circa 340bhp/370ftlbs (engine dyno) and 2.2 stroked engine that made almost identical figures, on the same engine dyno. They were both running 1.5bar, dropping to about 1.2bar at the top end.

I'd estimate that running about 1.7~1.8bar, and keeping the boost up at the top end, 400/400 shouldn't be too hard.

These are of course UK power figures, and would expect you to get far higher in the US, based on your average dyno results.

Surely a stroked EJ20 will be different to an EJ22 motor due to the diferent bore/stroke characteristics?? Or will it be negligable?

I found a dyno plot for the 22B here: http://dyno.scoobynet.co.uk/jap/anders_skarsten.htm
but something seems curious. Increasing the displacement of an engine typically lowers the peak power RPM. This doesn't seem to be the case with the 22B at all. According to the page, it reached it's 288bhp with a scoobysport muffler and a filter at 6370rpms, while a stock WRX 2.0L makes its power typically at 6000rpms. I was expecting the peak power of a 2.2L to be made at ~56-5800rpms... can anybody explain this?

thanks

You need to take into account that the 22b, and other imports have an 8000rpm red line, so will be designed to peak higher.

You need to compare the torque graphs though.

Cool

The peak power characteristics of an engine have more to do with overall engine geometry and head/cam setup than simply the engines displacement volume... typically a long throw undersquare engine will have lower peak torque and power points and rev less freely than a short throw oversquare engine like the ej series.
