I'm looking at buying said ECU secondhand but have a problem, my dealer will fit the ecu but will invalidate the remaiming 7 months of my warrenty as they are concerned about the extra strain put on the engine, my car has covered 50K.So I have a couple of questions.

1. What is peoples opinion of the ECU -performance, reliability etc.

2. What mileage have your cars done with ECU fitted?

Many Thanks,
Pete.

Should be okay.

You can fit it yourself, it's very easy, just pull back some carpet, undo 2 nuts, unplug 3 connectors, and reassemble in reverse order.

If it needs a trip to the dealer, pop the old one back in.

Even I managed to fit my Tek 1 in about 20 minutes - very easy to change ECU.
As it is a subaru ECU - they should'nt be able to tell unless they physically take it out to look at it and your warranty should hold.

It looks like I have to take it back to the dealer to fit it as I'll need my keys recoded to work with the new PPP ECU, been told this by dealer and Prodrive. As I'm pretty much stuck from hiding the fact that I have changed it I'm more interested in what peoples experiences are of it especially concerning reliability after the car has done a lot of mileage.

Thanks,
Pete.

not sure that's right about the keys! I think only the new age one have coded keys ? (or mayb MY00 ??)

I'd check that again!

& I'd replace the ecu yourself. the dealer probably wont even know until they lift the carpet!

Yup you will have to get the keys sorted to the ECU, not quite sure how they do it thou!
As for PPP problems.....
i dont know of one PPP'd car thats gone bang, its well within the safety limits and lots of testing has been done on them
You shouldnt have any problems with this chip

Should also say that when using this PPP ECU it is recommended to run your car on 97ron fuel as thats what its mapped to!

Thanks Tony, I was suprised that the dealer was concerned about extra strain as it does not affect your warrenty if you buy it through them. Guess the're more concerned that it's secondhand and not from them. Been informed from a guy from Prodrive that it doesn't really put more strain on engine just makes things more efficent.

Anyone one out there want to tell me what sort of mileage your cars have done with PPP fitted?

Thanks,
Pete.

PPP is a Subaru approved mod so they should not even think about a warranty issues!!!

I have PPP and some and am now approaching 60k

Fit it yourself if the dealer is getting sh1tty, as previously said, very easy
