Question

I have an STi 7 with about 1300 miles on it. I have some really nice Redline Heavy Shock gearbox oil sitting at home begging to be used.

Anybody got any ideas when I should change the oil or should I stick with the OE stuff until x number of miles, a la semi-synth for the first x number of miles for the engine?

Anyone?

If you're happy with the quality of the gearchange then stick with the standard oil for now. My car had a notchy gear change (as many do) - castrol syntrax returned it to perfectw orking order after about 20 miles of use !!!

I'm not happy with the quality of the gearchange because when I tried the OE oil vs Silkolene vs Redline on a previous Scoob, the improvements and differences between each of those was amazing.

I can't wait to change it in my STi but I don't want to change it too early, like the engine oil....

Mike,

I've already got the Redline Heavy Shock oil (recommended by Demon Tweak petro-chemist) and have used this oil before in a Scoob and it is fantastic!!!!

Thanks though,

Matt

Go on Matt , do it . I for one want to benefit from your experience as I'm thinking of doing it as well . I agree with the 75W90 rating . Here in South Africa in winter when the temp is about +10 Deg C I find the change , especially into second difficult untill the car is hot ; note , well after it is safe to cane the car . Nobody I've spoken too , including the workshops are concerned with my problem but after the positive experience I had after my 12500 km oil service ..... well lets just say I'm keen to see your results .

Don't wait too long now !

Like I said, judging by the improvement last time, I know it will be a good one, it's just a question of when should I do it....

About 3:30 in the afternoon

I would say run the gearbox in for a little while longer just to let stuff bed in. I would probably change it after say 6,000 miles.

Cheers
