I've just had a SS DP fitted to my car and the garage didn't refit/mod the heat shield ?. I know that a lot of people fit the shield again and some that don't. I called scoobysport and they said they would throw it away .

Anyone running no heatshield for a long time ?

Craig.

well i trimmed mine and replaced it on the basis that it wasn't installed for visual effect. I would replace it. You may need to remove the top 2 DP/Turbo bolts to replace the top mounting bracket depending on what they left you. I replaced mine with 3 of the original 7 screws, which seemed a tad over-engineered and i'd lost enough skin by then to be bothered with the lower ones!

its alot easier to put back on if the intercooler is removed. i would say if you are going to put it back on, use all the bolts, otherwise it is likely to vibrate at certain revs. this noise becomes annoying!!

if you coat them in wd40 then you can get most of them in all the way by hand, just leaving them to tighten up with spanner.

My 94-96 style heat sheild required a bit of cuttinyg, and a bit of hammer forming, and I put it on with about 4 out of the 7 orignial bolts.

Works fine, and I am happy that my brake servo and clutch master aren't getting cooked

After some good blasts I've not felt the IC or Brake Reservoir to be any hotter than normal, but I intend to refit the top part of the heatshield just to be on the safe side.

Did they take all of the Heatshield off your car? On the first link, I've posted pictures of all the parts.

Stefan

Another reason that the heatshield is there is safety. In the very unlikely event of a leak developing near the brake fluid reservoir (possible in a major accident though), the heatshield does help eliminate the possibility of brake fluid hitting the very hot surfaces directly.

As most of you probably know, brake fluid will ignite and burn very intensely if it lands on a hot enough surface (e.g. turbo, or Cat up to full temp).

It's also there as suggested to help keep the temps of certain parts of the engine/bay within reasonable limits.

Lagging the downpipe with suitable materials will help in this respect, but it's still advisable to re-fit the heatshields if you can.

John

Tts my view that it is essential to refit the top part of the heatshield in order to minimise radiated heat transfer into the intercooler, yes it still gets hot but the difference in intercooler temp is noticeable, needs a slight trim to fit but straightforward enough.

Thanks for the reply's

Just reading all the info in this thread and in ozzy's thread's it looks like the main problem/concern is the amount of heat that gets to the intercooler. My heatshield will go on asap now thanks.

Craig.
