Question

Anyone who knows this or has fitted this themselves.

What is the procedure for installing the Defi EGT Gauge Sensor. Do you use the existing lamba sensor and splice into the wiring, and if so, which ones.

Or do you have to tap into the downpipe or exhaust manifold/up-pipe and install the sensor that came with the Defi kit?

If it is the latter, then the car is going back to Scoobymania for them to do the job

Cheers

Simon

The EGT has nothing to do with the lambda mate.
U need to tap the exhaust manifold and use the supplied sensor.

Just out of curiousity, how difficult is it to get the manifold off. Is it easily accessible???

If so, I might have a crack at it. Anyone else on here had a go and done this? How difficult?

Cheers

It's easy...the heatshield might be an issue, I had access to air tools, and it was a doddle.

Thumbs up

Hi Simon,

On an old car it's a nightmare, but on yours it should be a doddle, yes.

My EGT sensor is in the manifold, just before the start of the uppipe. You may have to drill and tap a hole, dunno if the STi7 has a suitable point pre-machined or not.

Cheers

Don't you want this after the turbo ?

In the downpipe ?

Don't think so on the DP. Goig from what has been said already and the fact the the 'destructions' that came with the gauges and they point to drilling and tapping the Exhaust manifold....

Thanks Rich....

Secret Agent Man... You said access to air tools, what are they and how did they help you..? Did it allow you to drill and tap whilst on the car? Wouldn't have thought so but who know, certainly not me....

Re heat shields, these are welded around the pipe aren't they, which means rewelding back on afterwards???

So many questions....

Cheers

No m8,

Temps after the turbo are about 100-150 degrees lower. The temperature drop represents fuel energy returned to the engine by the turbo.

I mistakenly fitted mine in the downpipe first, the gauge needle hardly moved. My HKS gauge goes up to 1200 degrees and and the very highest you should want to see in the dp is about 700.

Now it's in the headers, the gauge is utilised much more and I see max temps of around 825.

Cheers

I had one of those smaller wheel nut airgun thingys (lacking the vocabulary being a foreigner ), with those superb jointed type sockets.

I was installing a new header and uppipe at the moment, so I didn't look to hard at the old manifold...can't help U with any special pointers on the install of the sensor.
I'd use one of the cast buttons, drill and tap it.

Ummm...being mates with the scooby garage certainly has it's advantages, lifts...tools. It usually costs a cake or 2 for a night in the workshop.

Question

Not bad if your dealer is that forthcoming with lending their equipment and premises.. Don't think mine would be so generous though, not after they stung me for 80 quids worth of labour for the cars 10000 mile service last weekend Think I have been screwed here, to pay for their new premises....

Wondering if the exhaust manifold on the 02 STi is the same as the 01/02 WRX. If so, I might try and get one from a breakers to have a go on, if cheap enough. Then just transfer onto my car when I have got it done.

What do people think?

Well, you need it after the turbo surly, mine is 700-800 degree's

as you can't put it in the manifold of a cossie.

850 too lean.

What difference does it matter if its before the turbo if the measurement of the temperature difference is the same.?

where is the lambda ??
