Question

As per topic heading, what do you achieve by doing that, how easy is it, and how much would you need to?

Ta!

Forgot to say car is TEK2 and a bit K&N 57i and full decat.
I'm getting pretty low boost considering the mods (mapped for 17Psi boost target) and I'm lucky to even get to 16.

Will tightening the actuator and/or playing with the restrictor help it do what its supposed to and how would I do it?

Failing that - back to a Dawes and setting it to hold what the TEK is mapped for................

Doesn't it change what boost the wastegate opens at. I think it's 8psi on an MY99MY00.

I guess if you tighten it (say to 10psi), it will hang on to the boost longer. Would need someone with more experience than me to tell you if this will actually result in. More boost I suspect, but there's probable more to it than it.

As for the restrictor - the smaller the hole, the higher the boost. Again, don't know what that means in the real world.

How much boost do you want?

Stefan

Yes it will increase the boost, and the ECU will allow this if the boost target is high enough.

It increases the preload on the wastegate, so the exhaust gas finds it more difficult to pop open the wastegate which can assist top end boost a bit. It will also reduce the effect of the boost pressure that hits it through its nipple.

The car is mapped for 17 target, would be quite nice!!!

Did some Delta Dash logs and only hit 16Psi once, rest of the time it was 14.5-15.5ish Thats crap.

When they uploaded the TEK2 and did the dyno run on the Open Day at PE it didn't even hit 260bhp. (2 friends with the same mods and the TEK2 got 270 straight away). After upping the boost target from the TEK2 from 16 to 17Psi and holding it slightly longer the power went up to about 265bhp ish, which is still crap considering...........

Sorry - hadn't refreshed and seen your post John.

Thanks for the info, is it easy to do? I imagine that its a case of trial and error then, giving it one turn each time until it hits the target its been set for? Will I need to fettle with the restrictor or leave it alone.

Cheers for the advice tho' looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel

I am seriously considering supplying a needle valve with my maps, especially the postal ones.

If you don't and you want to just hit target boost in top gear in cold conditions with a hot turbo and not overshoot, then you have to put up with up to 2 PSI less in hotter conditions and lower gears. The needle valves are only GBP 7 plus a few attachments and delivery should be under 15 and highly worth doing if you just can't get it "spot on".

Fiddling with the actuator has a similar effect - I reckon 1/2 a turn on my TD04 was about 1 PSI.

HOLY CRAP!!!

It does raise the boost!! My ecu is mapped for a target of 17PSi (1.2 kgcm) and now hits it Before I was getting a peak of 1.15
