Any opinions as to which decat downpipe and backbox combo is the best one to go for out of the ones supplied by the above ?

Personal choice, I think you would have to ask someone who has actually 'tried' both options.

There are many happy scooby drivers out there with both systems (not at the same time), you makes ya choice....

Cheers, MD.

Have owned 'classics' with both Group N spec TSL and Scoobysport back boxes. Would buy TSL if I was in the market, I currently have a MY00 with Scooby, and have no complaints, just found the TSL to be more subtle. Having said that I am becoming very middle aged

Have owned a Scoobysport and seen a TSL (dp & backbox) on a car.

I'd defo pick the Scoobysport after seeing that.

Im in the same quandry, even more so seeing as TSL have now brought out the Firestorm which looks sweet (bit like Blitz NurSpec). SS seem to have a better sound whereas TSL is more subtle but most people think the TSL is better quality and looks nicer - this is based purely on all the opinions I have read on here!! Think I will drive up to TSL to get an ITG filter and see what they both sound like.

We have both systems here... easiest thing to do is come and have a look/feel/listen.. and then take home the one you prefer... preferably paying for it first .It's very simple

Red face

I'm currently having a similar dilemma... Scoobsport or TSL - I need a backbox for my Sport, so if anyone's heard either, I'd like your opinions... do they sound any good?

Cool

The two systems are very similar

both have mandrel bent 3" Open throat down pipe. this drops to OE 2 5/8ths 2 bolt flange. (on "classic" car)

Both have a 2 5/8th staight through centre.. Pete's is mandrel bent again. Our's is compression bent. Slight difference in hanger design and flange ..oo-er!

The back box is the big difference.. it's just two ways of skinning the same cat (no pun intended ).. Some like SS.. some like TSL.. the joys of a free market economy

Cheers

Whilst you have your camera handy, can you show the pipework comparisons too please.

When you look at both, compare the pipework - I would say that the Scoobysport is better flowing purely from that point - in my opinion of course. I just thought the pipework on the TSL was a little strange - it may have changed since I saw it though.

But I guess it depends if you're the sort of person who wants something shiney, or something that works

Cool

.. Some more pics

The SS has a mandrel bent pipe. This is the best method in an ideal world as mandrel bending gives a totally even pipe diameter and smooth radius's.. hence the fact it is used by us both on the DP Where compression bending would compromise the larger diameter pipe.

We compression bend our BB pipework. As you can see it doesn't give the exact same contour but on this diameter of pipe.. as the photo's show, any difference it makes is debatable. The diameter reductions in turns, when done properly are fairly minute.

The SS system is a great system, with superb flow characteristics We have sold and fitted many. They will quite rightly always have their fans. We just set out to build something a little different, using the Group N homolgation papers as the starting point. (hence external flanging, r clip fixings etc.) You won't go wrong with either.. and despite what certain people have written, both work and look good. We offer an unlimited and transferable warranty. Pete's is pretty similar i think. Just buy the one you prefer

cheers

Paul

Trouser - am I correct in thinking that you sell the SS as well as your own? If so do you have one plus your group N and firestorm on demo cars as Id like to come up and listen to all 3 then choose which to buy and get it fitted the same day?

I take it the Firestorm is the loudest, does it sound loud in the cabin as well?

Y not mix and match? I have SS DP and Centre but the TSL rear box. When I got the SS bits used I could have had the BB as well but love the TSL BB's quality and the fact that its different, who wants to see another DBM Scooby with a SS full exhaust... :-)

Nice one Jon.. the nice thing is they all swap and change with eachother and OE..so the possibilities are endless.

simon.. sorry m8.. not ignoring you.. just not been on Drivetrain for a while

Firestorm is loud outside.. but Ok on the inside.. you are more than welcome to come and have a drive for yourself and make your own mind up. Cracking the Express up in the NEC yesterday and making everybody looked round suggests it does the job!!

SS sound ace.. ours sound ace.. just whether you prefer Mozart or Beethoven really

Cheers
