People... My car is overheatin when the turbo is used!!
if i drive the car without spinning the turbo up it doesnt overheat as quick but if i boot it it has been boiling over out of the expansion bottle...

On cars that i have had in the past, when the head gasket has gone the car has heated up very quickly from cold, but my car is not heatin up any faster than normal????

The top rad hose if very hot to touch, but the bottom one is not!!
i understand that this might be one of the head gaskets BUT
Is there any chance that it might be the thermostat that is faulty?? Could it be stayin closed and therefore overheatin??

i replaced the header tank cap last week as it was leakin, but in retrospect it may have not been faulty and may have been showing the start of a problem.

Any help will be very much appreciated!!

Try bleeding air from the rad, had the same problem when I fitted samco hoses and had to refill the coolant.

Bleed vavle located at the left bottom corner looks like a plastic tap looking from the front of the car. I had to jack the car up and remove the plastic shield to get at it. I used a plastic pipe to connect to the outlet and ran the car on idle until a steady flow of coolant came out. Tighten up the tap should be fine.

sounds like a thermostat problem.... or a blocked rad....


Are you loosing oil.... if you put the heaters on in the car do they blown hot or cold when in the hot position....!!

If the bottm hose is cold it sound as though for some reason the water is not flowing to the water pump e.t.c and the only thing that can cause this is either a blockage such as crap in the rad or the thermostat not opening....

Dan, i'm gettin hot air as far as i can remember from the heater.
Not losing any oil?? no mayonaise in the filler cap??
Gonna get a new stat tomorrow and flush the rad..

could be head gasket... but why is the bottom hose cold.... when the HG goes i would think all the water in the system would get very hot and the thermostat would open letting the water be cooled through the rad....

Does the fan come on when the temp gauge reads high as the it could be a sensor problem not setting the fan off to cool the engine....

Dan, the fan is workin fine, the temp guage is not gettin high...
If the gasket was gone i would be led to believe that the gauge would go through the roof?? what do you reckon?

there is a tap at the bottom of the rad on the left as you look at the car.....

Dont get me wrong, but shouldnt a bleed tap be at the top of the engine bay??
any air at the top of the rad wouldnt get out if the tap is at the bottom...

Hi Rob

If you stand in front of the engine bay and look straight down the rad to the left under the left fan, it is right on the corner.

The tap should be visible from here, but to access it you need to jack the drivers side and move the plastic shield, the plastic shield is held by those interior type plastic push clips. I applied some force on mine and it popped out. Then get a plastic pipe and fit it to the end of tap outlet. Turn the tap anti clockwise and this should open it. It will take some force to open it. Run the car on idle and rev a couple of times until you start getting coolant out. This should let all the air out, tighten the tap and take it for a drive.

I was getting the same prob on turbo spool up.

PS turn engine off when closing the tap, i did this once on a BMW and the fan kicked in and ripped my index finger apart

Changed the stat no more overheating ....
stat housing not sealed 100% so i think i'm gonna have to make a gasket tomorrow morning...

If you look at your bottom rad hose, where it goes to the engine, the hose joins a housing... the thermostat is in the housing.
The housing is held on by two 10mm bolts, remove the housing and pull the stat out.. the stat has a rubber seal round it.. remove this seal and place it back on the new stat... push the stat back in the same way you removed it.. put the housing back on... fill with water... boil for ten minutes (couldnt resist!)... bleed system and go....
