Default Aux belt alternator tensioner bolt

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that the mounting bolt for the alternator tensioner is very close to the aux belt. Any remedies to stop this from rubbing and wearing down the belt please ? I obviously don’t wanna loosen of the belt too much because at the moment the tension is where it wants to be. But I also don’t want it wearing through the belt quickly

The belt doesn't look anywhere near tight enough in that picture.
If those are GFB underdrive pulleys fitted you may need to fit a shorter belt (as supplied in the original kit)

The thing that surprises me is the lack of bolt thread below the adjuster.

Normally it extends a fair way below it

OEM belt for MY08 WRX is 34435AA030 which is a 5PK882 belt (882 mm being its circumference / length).
You may need something like a 5PK870 or 5PK865
Best way is to set the adjuster (with belt off) low enough to clear the top pulley run and then using a length of string around the 3 pulleys to measure the length required.

Yh I’ve had an issue with that bolt and was planning on buying one from icp today until I realised that they didn’t have any in stock 🤦🏻‍♂️. I’m gonna ring them tomorrow. Re the bolt - I ended up reversing the bolt that fixes the bracket as I found it far too close to the belt. Seen as it threads all the way through! Ima assuming it won’t be a problem because it burnt through my last belt after only 2 months 🤦🏻‍♂️

Slack tensioner off. Piece of string round the pulleys measure it and ring your local parts supplier or go in and say have you one of these the length of the piece of string They should have one on the shelf.

nice! Good way of doing it. Got no idea though why my previous belt was rubbing through it leading it to snap. could it be that it was too long then ?. I’ve never had that problem previously. Hopefully gfb will come back to me with the measurements of the one they provide, like don said
