I've listened to the various discriptions and sound files and have come to the conclusion that my UK97 suffers from slap now and again when cold (perhaps twice a week). It seems to go after a minute or so, do I need to do anything? Is the engine going to pack up on me? I've driven it about 4K and it does not seem to have developed.

I'm in the same boat m8, as my MY97 has it too. I think the general feeling is leave it alone, as it's just an annoyance more than anything. Compression tests etc. show no ill health for the affected cyclinder (4), so performance/economy is not affected.
Also, it is common to a lot of high powered cars (esp. turbo charged), due to the massive internal temps when hot, whereby the pistons expand quite dramatically.

I may be wrong (although I bloody hope not or it's bye bye scoob!)
