03 STI crunch into 5th under hard acceleration
I've read quite a few threads on here already but can't find one that's similar to mine. I only bought the car yesterday (private) and didn't drive the car hard on the test drive, but coming home I noticed under hard acceleration from 4th to 5th there's a small notch/crunch. It's fine under normal acceleration, but pretty much every time under hard throttle it'll crunch.
Any ideas what this might be please? From what I can see it might be the syncros; if this is the case any rough costs? I'm based in Kent if that helps, but willing to travel to the right place to get the work done if needed!

Have a read of this thread, it may give you a few pointers on cost.

I paid about 500 + vat for removal and refitting.
I agree with the above though, try an oil change first

Thanks all! It’s a 6 Speed so won’t be the nut issue related to the 5 Speed box.
It had the 3-year fluid change done last year but perhaps it wasn’t topped up properly, sounds like a sensible starting point.
Thanks for the link to your thread too Sivo, hoping it doesn’t cost me that much though!
It’s not a bad crunch, quite a small notch almost, but clearly something isn’t right. Will report back.
