Advise Pleeeeeeze!

OK, here goes. I had the main dash out last night to change a bulb for the rev counter. So I took it out completely and unplugged all the surrounding buttons and cables from the dash.
Fitted it back and tested all the buttons and lights, all working fine. Started the engine with no problem whatsoever.
Went for a drive and the car is pulling fine, but when I first decluched, i.e. coming up to a junction the revs went down to vertually 0, the car did not cut out but the idle seemed very slow at standstill. Pull away with no problem, same thing happened as I decluched again and even when the car was warm. Was running fine prior to this. Any ideas on why this might happen?
Thanks in advance.
Rich.
