Default Does a UK gear box fit JDM

My mate has a version 1 WRX import and he thinks the synchromesh is going as its slightly crunching in between gears. He's been told a UK gear box will fit, and of course this will change the gearing which he wants aswell. Also his rear crank oil seal is leaking, so i'm not sure if thats playing apart in his gear box problems as the cars very low miles.

As anyone heard of this being done or have any advice?

as above they are the same basic components but you need to ensure you use the correct matching rear diff

JDM cars use a 1>1 drop gear whereas UK use a 1.1>1 to reduce rear diff loading/speed

Nope you said make sure rear diff matches new box, which could sound like the existing diff may match up to the JDM gear box, hence why i was confirming he would need a new rear diff.

A replacement UK box going into a JDM will fit as long as it has the matching rear diff it will also last lol

same goes for a jdm box in a uk car

BUT, i wouldnt want a UK box in a jdm, the whole point of the JDM is its closer gears, higher revs, albeit only couple hundred rpm but it makes a jdm as boring as a uk car ( can of worms there ha )

Well his rear crank oil seal is leaking, so that needs replacing, clutch is being done at same time, but we think the synchromesh is going also as its grinding in between gears sometimes, so looks like might need a new gearbox.

Also he's finding he's always on boost, and hes finding it annoying on long trips. Open to idea's?

Try a decent gear oil as this can improve gear changes.
As for driving around on boost then adjust driving style, unless the cars been remapped and boost targets set high on partial throttle.

Yeah i told him about replacing the gear box oil, but seen as he's having the rear crank oil seal replaced if he's going to get another gear box he's better having it done at same time.

I'm guessing the oil won't solve the problem long term?
