Driveshafts
Hi Guys
I have a 55 plate blob, which I have just bought a 5 speed box for with PPG gearset, another diff, can't remember what it is but can check numbers of the new box and diff etc, and my old one of chassis code.
Also got new stage 2 clutch and flywheel.
I need to know before I drop it off to my mechanic if my old driveshafts will be compatible or if I need to get different ones.
My motor has been sat for a while due to parts, so I'm desperate to find out ASAP so I can take it to my mechanic and get it all done in one hit.
Also the box is a DCCD box, but I haven't got a controller for it yet, which will probably happen at a later date.

My Subaru guy got the bits for me etc, but couldn't wait any longer for fitting and he said just not sure what driveshafts will be needed.
So should have the correct diff for box etc.
Would I be able to find out from my chassis code if the shafts will match the new gearbox, or would I need both gearbox codes?
Or is it suck it and see?

Car is UK 5 Speed without DCCD, was told without the controller the DCCD will revert to 50-50 or whatever....
Think the new gearbox is UK, it's in the van at the mo so is there anything I can check on it??

You really have opened a can of worms. The torque split will be 35/65 with 1/1 drop gears in the tail end of your DCCD box. The UK non DCCD box will have 1.1/1 drop gears in the tail end of the box. So your front and rear diff will be wrong.
**** sake, it was an option between a 6 speed that came with everything needed or this!! What's needed to make this work then? Might make sense why I have been waiting a few months for it all to get fitted...........

You would honestly be better sell the PPG box or get someone to build it into your original casing without DCCD then everything should be ok. The only thing you might have to change is the pinion shaft to suit your front diff. If you were sitting looking at it would be simple but its very hard to describe/diagnose on the internet and I'm not a fan of trying to type lol
Witout the controller the dccd will be in open, in needs power to start controlling the forward torque split, so good luck on wet days as car will behave in a very rear wheel drive handling.

Car is going to the gearbox shop on Thursday hopefully, getting them to take the old box out, take the PPG kit out of the other box and put it in mine keeping my pinion shaft and crownwheel? So just putting the tail end and gears from the PPG into mine? Is this right Joe, that's what I have asked em to do anyway....Then putting my stage 2 clutch and flywheel on, and putting it in the car.
Was going to get my mechanic to put the box in, but the logistics of running about mean it's cheaper to get one place to do it.
Actually excited about having a car again, the remapped van doesn't quite cut it at the moment.

The other two little issues are front brake judder, im getting the discs skimmed still on the car, can't remember what it's called, but just need to find the right pads online.
And the CF bonnet has gone milky and looks pretty crap, thinking about just getting it painted black.

From memory the only drop gears in the non 6 speed DCCD boxes were 1:1 ratio meaning you will need a 3.9 rear diff.
From above it looks like you were supplied a diff with the PPG box. Take the cover off the diff, the ratio of the diff is stamped onto the side of the crown wheel it's not that easy to see but it's there. If it's a 3.9 your laughing and off you go. If it's not then you have an issue. There were not may R160 3.9 rear diffs so you also need to know if the rear diff is an R180 or R160 as that will determine what rear shafts you need. Being a Newage WRX if it's an R180'rear diff then all you need is a set of non Widetrack STI rear shafts.
In terms of your front shafts. The PPG box should have male splined shafts on the box these will mate with your front shafts so you should have no issues at the front.

In terms of controlling the DCCD that's simple f you use an aftermarket controller like the MAPDCCD. It's easy to to fit and very very effective.
