Default Diff gurus help needed :)

Hi guys I'm After pickin your brains for some infomation

I have a na 2.0 wagon what diff do they come with standard?

And my main question Is what is the strongest rear diff and shafts I can fit

iv hurd a r180 is strongest will this be a direct swap with my current diff or will I need drive shafts too? Or possibly hubs if the drive shafts are thicker

the rear end needs to be able to with stand 350 bhp ish on it's own

any help much appreciated

I can only assume you are welding the centre diff, removing the front shafts and running it RWD?
I would try running the std r160 diff.
Defiantly more info required though

Hi there mate I will not be keeping the STD gearbox so my only issue is making the rear diff setup as strong as possible

N/A cars normally run an 'open' rear diff - you would be better swapping to one of the turbo options which run a form of LSD rear - R160 style will be basically a straight fit as long as you use the correct fitment shafts to match the diff age you get

R180 would take a lot more work as the hubs/shafts/diff are all matched and dont interchange with any R160 components

R180 is the strongest and you'll need the shafts and rear hubs too, you'll also need a matching centre diff, the gearbox is immaterial as it's the final drive ratio's that need to be the same.

But to be fair at 350bhp it shouldn't be an issue for an R160 diff provided it's been well looked after, it's usually the box that lets go first.

I'm running a rb25det gearbox so the diff and shafts will be the weekest parts

You will not be able to run the subaru diff.
I had to put an audi diff in my impreza when I put the audi gearbox in.

it wont matter what gearbox I use as I will be having a custom propshaft made to suit either end and length

I think you miss my point somewhat...
It will matter what box you run if you plan on keeping the impreza diff and using a RWD box. It simply will not work at all. There is a perfectly good reason I swapped my 4.1111 impreza diff for a 4.1111 audi diff. If it was as easy as keeping the impreza diff then that is exactly what I would of done, but it wasn't. That's why I've had to make (and break) quite a few driveshafts over the past 3000 miles.
Have you fitted the engine and gearbox in yet? How far along is this project? When are you planning on completion?
Watching with intrest.

Wrong.
The centre diff has nothing to do with final drive ratios.
The final drive ratio is dealt with in the front diff and the drop gears (oh drop gears.... Clue)

Well, I defiantly needed the audi diff due to the subaru diff crown wheel being on the wrong side!
If the prop runs backwards on the Nissan then you should be ok. Otherwise you will have 5 reverse gears.
I thought 4th was straight through on the Nissan box? The impreza has drop gears and the prop runs backwards.

Well I was told if I want to turn my blob WRX 5 speed into dccd using the r180 from my Type R I'd need to change the centre diff or what ever it's called that bolts to the front of the gear box to get the correct final drive and of course the dccd part.

Is this wrong?

Sounds wrong, the centre diff is in te back of the box and doesn't effect the gear ratio at all.
The drop gears behind it can, but mainly the front differential has the main effect, that's in the bell housing up front. But you would need a pinion shaft too.

Doesn't seem to be mentioned!
I'm sure they ended up running a 200sx diff in the end.
I discovered this fact before I put my box in luckily! Or I would have the front wheels wanting to go forward and the back wanting to go back! Lol

Thinking about it, maybe my audi prop runs backwards due to it being a three shaft gearbox.
Not sure, I'd be checking all the same

Regardless of the diff issues, if be interested to see how far along this project is, what bits the op has and when completion is due? Or is it just "an idea"
