Question exedy pink box VS competition clutch spec 2

am looking at different clutches for a 6 speed.

I have seen these two different clutches mentioned quite a few times, both with good and bad things, all depending on where you read and hear.

what one and why please

thanks

I would give Alyn at AS Performance a call - very knowledgable and offers sound advice and good prices for all parts.

I went Pink Box for my 02 STi Bugeye running just over 300 bhp and does the job nicely.

Im a newb to the world of mods, and found Alyn to offer sound advise and doesn't try to sell you something you don't need. :-)

How much power/torque are you running?.Out of the two i personally like the pink box uprated Exedy, but both would do the job.SJ.

after a map tweek, it would prob be around the 300 mark at a guess.

but i would like the clutch to be able to cope with around 400-450 bhp (380-400 lbft) incase of future mods.

A Pink box Exedy would be fine mate,i agree with you future proofing especially with clutches, always try to buy a clutch based on your highest torque figure as engine torque is what destroys clutches,Alyn from ASPerformance would be a good place to start sourcing one at a good price as mentioned above or also Bob of Aztec.SJ.

thank you sj

on the paperwork side of things, it says the cc stage 2 has a higher lbft rating of around 400lbft and the pink box at a lower

Competition Clutch is slightly more expensive, but can handle a fair bit more power, also kit is more complete (comes with spigot bearing and alignment tool).

We keep both in stock, Exedy Pinks we've had some recent issues with and we're preferring Competition Clutch.

Some of the main specialists on this forum use Competition Clutch by default over Exedy.

look up the exeedy problems thread on here, i for one would not fit one to a kids gocart let alone a subaru, the plate only has 4 springs not 6 as fitted to the comp clutch, thats why it vibrates its bollocks off when decelerating

That's funny as Subaru o.e clutches are Exedy,I personally have had no problems with any exedy clutch in any of my Subarus,if you are having problems must be user error,if you look you can find a negative feedback about any after market clutch, but my Advice stands the exedy clutches that i have used have been faultless, not taking anything away from the CC clutches though.SJ.

Yeah you are right,on paper,my engine was running about 420 lbft of torque and the pink box exedy did not slip at all under full acceleration,as i said before both clutches will do the job but like everything in life people prefer different parts that work for them i have used both so have giving you my opinion,i just liked the feel of the exedy better,it felt more o.e and less harsh to me.SJ.

Not bigging up exedy but you are talking nonsense about the springs...

Look up fk03h1601 and fk03h601 on exedy website.....same clutch but a 4 spring and 6 spring version of same clutch friction disc. They actually went from 6 spring to 4 spring because of judder issues

I have ran a pink box in my hawk now for over 10k . Fells like standard clutch ! Running 475 and 470 of torque ! No issues , no slip and no judder !

have used and fitted both and the Exedy is far more refined in day to day use albeit it doesn't have the ultimate torque rating of others (having said that they always over perform as above)

for our tastes we use Pink Exedy and then the next current upgrade on the list is to an ACT (far superior in all ways to the CC) albeit more expensive
we have hd some good results using EXTREME kits but not enough yet to get a genuine opinion although i am initially very impressed and more inclined to recommend than CC

Not to do with the number of springs as such.

You're not the only one to get fed up with Exedy and move to Competition Clutch and be happy with the move. Many specialists fit Competition Clutch by default over Exedy now also.

No axe to grind, we stock and sell both brands, strong preference for uprated is Competition Clutch.
