gearbox conversion help !
right guys help needed asap , i try to will add all i can think of to get the best answer to my question .
so to start i have a 2007 2.5 hawkeye running at 350 bhp. with 385 ft
about month ago upgraded my clutch to a exedy twin plate clutch .....
but it has now is has eaten 3 gear on my gearbox and ive only covered 1200 miles on this clutch
so im going to upgrade to a sti 6 speed box , but where the problem lies is to do with the pull type clutch on the sti but mine is a pull type..
so my question is has any one done this pull to push type on one of these boxes?
thanks yvonne

The only alternative AFAIK is to have the original box rebuilt with stronger bits but that would have cost more than the 6 speed conversion.
Hope this helps.

That's ok , well I can answer this ....
No you don't need rear drive shafts or brakes but if you don't the you have to swap all you internal hub parts and it can be very fiddly and time consuming.
So with my kit I've got
Front drive shafts
Rear drive shafts
rear hubs
Diff
Prop shaft
6 speed gearbox
and as an add extra I've got the full brembo set up .

Presumably you don't actually need the font shafts though, considering your not touching the front axle at all?
If ya don't mind me asking, what's that lot costing you? I'm just trying to decide how far man maths can let me push my GB270 lol.

The front axle (diff) is built in to the gearbox so drive shafts are part of the equation. However - some of the front diffs have little stub shafts so need CV joints with internal splines, some diffs have internal splines so need cv joints with splined shafts.
Others on here have better knowledge about which model has "innies" or "outies"

No your right you don't need the front drive shafts or brake set up but the drive shafts are twice as thick as the wrx ones
With every thing expect clutch it's 2000.
But to me it's worth it as im running 350 bhp and 385 ft pound of torque .
Thanks yvonne

There are a umber of options you can use here.
Assuming you use a UK 6 speed then you can change your current rear diff which is 4.11 ratio for as new as you can get, late blobeye WRX R160 rear diff which will be the correct 3.54 ratio to mate with a UK 6 speed. I am not 100% sure if the 2.5WRX rear shafts are the same as the blobeye WRX shafts but worst case scenario you can pick the rear shafts up very cheap. This will allow you too retain your rear hubs and brake set up etc.
I have a Spec D 6 Speed fitted to my track RA and I use the male ended 2.5 WRX shafts, these fit straight in with no need for the stub shafts. I have been using these for a couple of years with lots more torque than you have. What I am unsure of is whether the earlier 6 speeds have the same seal set up as the Hawkeye Spec D box.
Hopefully some food for thought.
