Default Carbon

Wheres the best place to buy carbon bits for a '99 Impreza? I've found a few with greatly varying prices, so is it a case of buy cheap, get poor quality or are they all the same?

I think you got it in one there. You normally get what you pay for.

Depends what you want - ive found a supplier and trying to get some bits made up. Should be cheapish and good quality.

Larger items he not so cheap on!

After anything really, probably bonnet first as mine is very heavy. Only want quality stuff though, i've seen some cheap bonnets before and the weave looks crap and dull.

Andy F - thats not a problem. Email me to remind me!

Saint AAI - thats easy to. All depends how much you want to spend though. I have had 4 carbon bonnets now. 2 cr@p, 1 really good, 1 pretty good. Ive got another carbon bonnet im trying to.

Ive also found a carbon supplier who makes proper pre preg stuff so no wet lay, but its expensive. For instance, he quoted me on a bonnet for a proper lightweight pre preg bonnet and its a shocking price! But, then he sent me samples and oh my god, the quality is different that wet lay! lol.

At end of day - Wet lay gives that carbon look but is about as heavy as normal stuff. But is cheap.

"Dry" carbon is the daddy carbon but expensive

Why cant we have a middle! lol

FMS- yours was Seibon mate - really good. Was pretty impressed with it

it also depend's on the "quality one's" price won't it , if there are pant's bonnet's about and the quality is crap they won't sell will they ,
who done the group buy a few month's back that took month's to do ,......finally"
the quality was surposed to be the best going blah blah from the state's

I did a group buy on carbon bonnets about a year ago and they were from the States and the quality was supposed to be good. At the times carbon bonnets were going for £500 upwards and we got the SAME carbon bonnet for £380 delivered! lol

Seibon came along and offered their bonnets which are pretty good.

And soon another company are doing carbon which are to be pretty good ones.

At the time of the group buy, the bonnets i sorted were the best on the market for the price (only better ones were the pre-preg costing over £800)!

But now, you can name about 7 carbon suppliers easily - they have all jumped on the market as its easy to make money! But out of the 7, only really 2-3 good ones.

You can pick up a carbon bonnet from £250 if not lower now - but im not saying the quality is good. But then again, your not paying alot arent you.

I paid £550 for my pre-preg carbon bonnet and that was at discount. Stupidly light, but quality aint that good. Pre-preg isnt that great quality as they prefer the racing/save weight look. Where as 99% of the carbon stuff out there, is wet lay so looks good, but saves no weight!

Hmmm be careful lads remember a lot of Companies wont take these back once sent. Do you really want something that looks cheap on your car especially something of that size. There are some REAL disapointments out there.

I was thinking in terms of going carbon for performance, not 'bling'

I dont see the point of wet lay at all myself

if you want performance throw the basic sh1te out first, can't see by fitting c/f bonnet but leaving rear seat's , carpet etc in is going to save you much ????
