Better off saving yourself 4 grand and buying a UK spec EU import. These are now covered by the 3 year Subaru Pan European warranty by law.
Only differences are that you'll need to:
- Fit an alarm
- Fully underseal it
Places like Motorpoint or Trade Sales are a good place to start.
LC.

Don't buy a MY04, wait a few months and get the MY05 as the interior has been upgraded amongst other things.
I agree with what Lem0ncurd says, buy from http://www.newcarsupermarket.co.uk and save yourself a few grand.

Have a look here under the links for the MY05 JDM Impreza - the interior now has a new centre console with 3 round dials for the heater controls, plus there's climate control and blue alcantara over most of the doors. It's not massively different but still a worthwhile step in the right direction IMHO.

You may be able to order MY05 right now from a sufficiently clued-up dealer (if you can find one of those). Or, if you fancy an '05 JDM car (which adds twin scroll turbo, heavily revised engine, intake & exhaust mods, HID lights, electric folding mirrors and rear wash/wipe), you can definitely order it right now direct from Litchfields.

There's no significant difference between MY03 and MY04 - the shape of the boot lock changed, that's all.
Car supermarkets seem popular right now, since Malta and Cyprus (where the cars tend to come from) have become part of the EU and therefore Subaru UK's warranty obligations include looking after cars from those countries. But, you really must do your homework first with such places - find out where the cars came from and what warranty you get (including, most importantly of all, who provides it - a good rule of thumb is if it's not the manufacturer's, it's worthless).
Non-UK cars will need a Thatcham Cat. 1 alarm/immobiliser and probably a tracker too to get insurance, so make sure they're included. Non-UK cars may have an alarm/immob already but it won't be Cat. 1 listed so it's no use and will have to come out. Underseal is easy to get done so don't worry too much about that. You'll probably want locking wheel nuts too and a service book in English. I'd budget about £1k or so for security and underseal.
Finally, do be aware that newcarsupermarket is part of CarCraft, which may influence your decision over whether or not to buy from them.
Personally I'd be looking at a private sale of an MY03 for that money. Have fun!

I find it odd that these euro cars dont come with the same alarm system that the uk ones come with... what sorta stuff do people go for? cliffords or what?
Warrenty of course important, but after 12 months or so id fancy a trip to TSL ne ways
