Any Scooby dealers/mechanics help, please
Hi there,
Just had the results of an aa inspection on my intended scooby! :-) The news is very good: its very low mileage (15,000) looks to be completely genuine and the AA man commented that it was a very good car. Yay! :-)
HOWEVER, he did note that due to the fact that it hasn't been used much in the last 3 years, (has fSsh) till then and 22.5 k service done early, it needs a good service to see it back into regular use. What kind of service should I book it in for and how much should I expect to pay. This is important so I can negotiate on price accordingly.
Also the inspection revelaed a slight oil leak from the rear diff, which resulted in a slight whining sound under acceleration. He said that topping up with oil would rectify it, but it should be investigated further for a "Pinion (sp) oil seal leak" Assuming that it is a leak that needs a replacement seal, how much would I be looking at to get the work done?
Any advice would be very much appreciated! (BTW i'm in Kent, if anyone wants to recommend a good place to take the car). I've heard good thigns about extreme scoobies
Best.

Take it to a dealer/specialist ask them to look over it & make recommendations, at the very worst it may be engine oil, diff & gearbox oil with a cambelt & air filter thrown in for good measure. Though may also need plugs, though this could be done bit by bit....

Drop the diff & get the seal done, probably looking at 2 - 2.5 hours of work & the seals are under a tenner each. £45 - £64 per hour depending where you go (plus vat)

Personally I'd recommend you getting out to the Kent meet, (ask for Pele) having a good look around for 3 months & then start making small tweaks.
I'd also look to book some track time once the car is sorted to show you what it can do, Bedford Autodrome is a stunning first track for beginners with tuition & no fear of killing the car; as there is so much room & only a few small barriers, most importantly enjoy the car & welcome to new ownership
